Puristic

Oh, has my sample gone off? I sense a hint of Maggi - the esteemed Palonera once pointed out to me that this can be a sign of such things. Hmm, it could also be interpreted as … (I realized this only later!) or salty licorice. On the other hand, a sample from December 2013 is unfortunately not the freshest material anymore. However, within the first minute, the Maggi-XXX… (I realized this only later!)-licorice idea initially fades away and earthy notes emerge from below.

The initial impression doesn’t completely vanish, but I now remember that I experienced a similar sharp-herb-spicy sting some time ago during a store test of the Patchouly by Etro (it must have been the EdT). Well, today it certainly doesn’t smell “spoiled” in any way, but simply like patchouli, sharp-spicy and earthy at the same time.

As it progresses, I find myself - although I don't know pure patchouli oil - somewhat in agreement with a previous commentator. The linearity of the scent easily justifies a feeling of boredom, and I occasionally ask myself: Is there more to come?

Not much. It glides through the day; the only change is that the herb-spicy note very slowly shifts towards… - and then, only in retrospect, a thought of an aroma that also fits at the front arises: The thing slowly moves towards dusty bitters(!), while the continental drift whizzes by.

Conclusion: For purists.

I thank MisterE for the sample.

Hmm, no, not for me. Although, if it smells like real licorice (bear poop)... well, we'll see.

So, not the ideal patchouli scent...

I only know this scent from the room when my colleague wears it. It's okay, but actually a bit one-dimensional, just patchouli without anything else. It's great for purists.

I agree with Palonera. **Ambra Nera** is delightful.

As much as I like Farmacia SS Annunziata as a brand, I can only connect with one of their scents, the Amber fragrance.

No, thanks - I only like patchouli as a supporting player. As a solo act, it would be too much for me.

And? Did another cat pee comment come in, ;-)? That's a shame - Farmacia can create wonderful scents, I still rave about "Ambra Nera" to this day - but I think I’ll skip this one...

I'm wearing it today. It somehow fits the weather. Not much happens with it, actually nothing at all. Everything feels so calm...

Too bad, I actually like patchouli, but this type isn't really my thing.

Oh no, thanks, I don't need it, it's okay, no problem! So much patchouli is a lethal dose for me!

Dried patchouli flowers smell wonderful, fresh and still green. But some patch scents are earthy and musty, a bit rough; you either like that or you don’t.

It represents exactly the kind of patchouli that I don't really like. I gave my sample away. Too intense, too tar-like, not soft enough. Even my essential patchouli oil is more pleasant and softer!

That's how it should be! I was thinking of strawflower, which also leans towards the spicy sauce direction. :))

I wasn't bored by that one... sometimes I lean towards purism too ;-)

Maggi-Licorice Cup ... I can't think of anything else.

Yes, I can reassure you. It smelled back then, when the bottle was still fresh, like... just an unpleasant, musty patch without a doubt. Quite overpowering and uncompromising. Unfortunately, lacking the refinement that, for example, Mazzolari's patch has...
