Butterfly dreams
I am one of the silent fellow readers. This will be my first comment, let's see how I'm doing.
I ordered from Fragonard the "Eau de toilette Mimosa" and this perfume, the "Tout ce que J'aime - Mon Oranger" as well as a set with 10 small 10 ml samples of different fragrances. I've been interested in the company's fragrances for quite some time, and I've also been curious about Yves Rocher's "Pur Desir de Mimose" fragrances with mimosa as a component (I possessed this dreamy yellow and gently "lulling" fragrance about 8 years ago and emptied a bottle, but haven't smelt since, as production unfortunately stopped).
With the Mon Oranger of the Tout ce que J'aime-Line by Fragonard I needed several attempts to classify the fragrance for myself.
I tested it for the first time at the end of March this year: at the beginning you will be impressed by the opening notes and partly by the also already attacked by the slightly honeyed and narcotic heart notes and I did not know how my nose happened :P I was most likely to think of the sweetness, which I do not perceive as pappig or squeaky sweet, "narcotic" or "nectar" as associations, whereby at the very beginning also the bitter orange is clearly noticeable, which I perceive as bittersweet and a bit juicy, but not fresh, and which made me think for a moment of bitter orange jam, which I like.
I decided to test the fragrance again in the foreseeable future.
Yesterday the weather was not so warm and a bit windier than the last two days, but a bit warmer than at my last test in March. You can tell it's summer's coming.
During an early morning walk in the countryside, past the olive grove, prickly plants, fennel bushes, multicoloured flowers and evergreen wild aloe plants (not everything here in southern Spain is scorched by the dry heat and everything is blooming, birds chirp, in cities it often smells like azahar, orange blossoms) a yellow, very opulently scented shrub attracted me like a butterfly. I took a twig from one of the shrubs and found out afterwards that it was "la retama", in English broom, a shrub which, according to my research, can flower from spring to September.
I didn't know broom smelled so strong and beautiful. Although these shrubs with the cheerful yellow flowers have always attracted my attention (I also see them in cities sometimes), I have never noticed this strong sweet scent before.
In Fragonard's Mon Oranger, the heart note is Mimosa Absolue, Sweet Acacia Absolue and Broomster Absolue. It occurred to me immediately after this discovery.
I took this knowledge as a reason for a new test, sprayed it on me, sniffed at my wrist and believed, above all bitter orange at the beginning, but also authentic broom really clearly to smell out.
A research showed that mimosa, as well as acacia and broom belong to the order of the butterfly blossoms (Fabales). The impression of "nectar sweetness" is not a coincidence. I like the term "shameful sense plant" (Mimosa pudica), this can be found in the Wikipedia entry on mimosa. There is also informed about the acacia, which is probably often called "false mimosa" and belongs to the subfamily of the mimosa family.
After a picture comparison I found out that the two plants are similar, only that mimosa is a half shrub with mauve flowers and acacia is mostly a shrub (according to Wikipedia: "rarely trees, mostly shrubs") with yellow flowers Also, the base notes (musk and sandalwood are indicated) this time smelled different, I found them, if at all, a bit more "subtle". At my first test a little over a month ago, I didn't seem to like the musk in the base. From yesterday's overall impression, I think it wasn't musk, and I was simply overwhelmed by the overall combination of the base notes with the blossoms in the heart note and bitter orange and orange blossom absolute in the top note.
About the shelf life - I sprayed the fragrance in the morning at about half past 11 o'clock and could smell it clearly until I went to bed (after midnight). I liked the heart note best. The top note is strong and overwhelming.
Overall I am positively impressed by this fragrance from Daniela Andrier, it was not love at first sight, but it fascinates me somehow.
I enjoy it above all when the heart note comes to bear and the fragrance becomes a little calmer for me, but still "nectarsweet lasting". I absolutely don't see it as a "typical" everyday fragrance and can imagine it very well for a wedding, for example, and generally on special occasions during the day and possibly in the evening (I still have to test it) and most likely in spring. Perhaps also to stroll around and "smell the competition" with the broom bushes
