Masculine and classy
This is a delightful spicy-woody-mossy-soapy chypre that's slightly animalic. It's masculine and classy. I place it in the same general ballpark of Aramis by Aramis, but Rothschild is less leathery, and not quite as loud.
Projection is okay, and it lasts a whole day on my skin.
Obscure enough to not be listed on Fragrantica, Rothschild EDT was launched in the early 80s by Parfums Rothschild, Paris. That's the bottle pictured here, and the one worth buying. This first version was very popular in Italy and until a few years ago it was still possible to occasionally find vintage dusty bottles in stores. In the late 80s a lawsuit by the famous Rothschild family forced a name change to "de Rothschild" and then another lawsuit forced a second name change to "de Roeschiele" (those bottles were made in the USA by Michael Christopher), and I believe the final name change was to Romanoff (made by Lenel, also USA). From what I'm told all these name changes came with unrecognizable reboots rather than reformulations.
Masculinity Level: I can imagine Dean Martin wearing this while enjoying a Scotch and cigar with Sinatra who in turn is rocking Aramis.
