WAIT AND HOPE: A BITTERSWEET ODE TO VETIVER

“Attendre & Espérer” is French for “Wait and Hope.” It’s the final line from The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, carrying a quiet sense of endurance, longing, and bittersweet resilience. Those emotions, felt deeply by the character, seem to echo in the very fabric of this fragrance. I enjoyed this scent. There’s a restrained warmth to it, like a memory of home or something comforting you can almost touch, but never quite hold. The bittersweet mood of the phrase mirrors the bittersweet scent.

It opens with a soft touch of sweetness — caramel-cookie undertones, with a sharp burst of black pepper. A bitter walnut note follows, earthy and dry, adding an intriguing twist. That fleeting warmth vanishes quickly, giving way to the real heart of the fragrance: vetiver.

The vetiver is peppery, rooty, dry, bitter, and nutty — a full expression of the material’s rugged beauty. Cedar stays quietly in the background, adding structure without ever taking focus.

The fragrance leans masculine. It’s solid and composed, never loud or flashy.

A very interesting take on the vetiver, where the juxtaposition of caramel and bitter vetiver creates a complex balance. The walnut / nutty notes further enhance the vetiver’s texture, adding depth, and making the overall composition feel multidimensional.
