Solidly Unusual
The bad news: I was not prepared for the absolute firehose to the face of black pepper in the opening. I enjoy a pepper note but was momentarily overwhelmed by just how strong it was.
The good news: the pepper fades in about 10 minutes, replaced by a fleeting, softly spiced iris heart that is almost immediately replaced by the nutty vetiver base.
The great news: the real star of the show here is that nut accord. It’s reminiscent of the scent that rises as you chop walnuts — warmly nutty with a slightly dusty edge. It lends the fragrance a sense of solidity and confidence, and mixed with the vetiver and a hint of cedar it turns surprisingly cozy, like wearing a comfy old sweater you found in a winter cabin.
I didn’t expect to like this as much as I do — I couldn’t stop burying my face in my wrists all day just to get another hit of that comforting yet unusual base.
Projection and longevity are both moderate, and although unisex it leans slightly to the masculine coded side of the scale.
