A true bitter peach
Now, I do love a good not sweet peach scent... And this is good!

I actually think the peach note itself it quite realistic. More peach tree and peach skin, than the ripe flesh, though. The bitterness of galbanum and the earthiness of chrisanthemum make it a peach of my dreams! I see where the tea comparisons come from, for sure.

And no, this is not a gourmand scent, and that's why I like it! This is spiced, woody, smoky, fruity peach tree.

A special peach
Tian Di (by perfumer Olivier Gillotin) is the most original of the three Frassai perfumes I sampled, and my outright favorite. It is really quite odd – a smoked-out peach skin nestled in a dusty ‘brown’ accord that remind me alternately of loose (peach-flavored) tea in those triangular nets sold by Dammann Frères, coffee grounds, or even cocoa – but also unexpectedly lovely. I am particularly charmed by the marvelous effect it produces on the skin, where it is all burnt peach licorice on the inhale (similar to the burnt anise-iris at the base of Guerlain’s Attrape-Coeur, albeit in dust form rather than apricot jam) and spearmint gum on the exhale. It is as gingery and as cooling as a tisane drink, yet as granular and coarsely-textured as the dry material before the hot water hits it.

Tian Di eventually deepens – or perhaps ‘spreads out’ – into a smudgy, smeary mint butterscotch and floor wax accord, with a hint of trampled grass and even beer, but never loses the malted, almost smoky graininess of the incense and tea. There is something about this that tugs a memory chord for me, making it difficult for me to evaluate objectively beyond the rather gormless ‘It’s odd but I love it’ review I’ve given it here. I think there’s either a loose connection to the peach of Trèsor (Lancôme) or to the sandalwoody, salty-minty, peony-esque weirdness of Dune (Dior), both of which I wore as a teenager, but again, this is all probably a Pavlovian response playing out in my mind and my mind only. Tian Di is special and unique. I’d buy this one in a heartbeat because I don’t have anything like it in my collection.

Xīwángmǔ
Through the orientation towards the Dao, people can learn about the laws and manifestations of the world principle by observing the course of the world in which the Dao expresses itself. Through the workings of the Dao, opposing yet interrelated forces are created.

It may be that the highest Yin - according to Taoist belief - represents the pinnacle of femininity. Xīwángmǔ is the highest Yin, her male counterpart, Tung Wang-Kung, the active male principle Yang.

Symbolically, "Tian Di" (now we are talking about the perfume!) impressively reflects both. From the very beginning, I perceive a similar duality, from which the interplay of sun smoke and peaches reveals the transformation, becoming, and growth of Tian Di. I can certainly claim that the peaches here do not come across as particularly feminine, and the Chinese-sounding incense is not distinctly masculine.

Tian Di indeed follows its own - quite Asian-exotic - path and is primarily a meditative and serene scent, which - strangely enough, originating from Argentina - embodies the spirit of a Chinese soul.

Every 3000 years, the sacred peach trees of Xīwángmǔ are said to bear fruit - and whoever tastes them gains immortality....

Not the juicy peach as expected, instead, it's more sophisticated, slightly boozy, with hints of spices, making the peach sharper and unisex

Warm peach juice stirred into green chrysanthemum tea. A smoky swirl of ginger & incense. Steers clear of gourmand territory. Truly unique!

Fruity peachy incense that’s restrained in sweetness. Becomes creamy in drydown. Comes across as “perfume-y”. Pleasant and highly wearable.

To me, this smells of a high quality dried smoked peach tea. This is not a gourmand juicy peach fragrance. Love it!

A scent for the soul that helps process things: earthy smoke, green notes, vineyard peach, woody-oriental.

Instead of FF, a wellness scent with unsweetened peach in spicy incense mist. Resting on woody musk fluff. Soft, meditative, androgynous.
