Come Closer

Not all fragrances labeled as aquatic are actually typical aquatics. Luckily! Cašmir Festival Blue, for example, is not, and neither is this little treasure here from GAP. Close has a similar top note to my blue Cašmir. It is more floral, meant to evoke the sea, water, and beach, and definitely not the Calone that I despise.

Once again, this is a scent that has landed in my collection more or less by chance. My dear Gold had a feeling about it. And that feeling was right. Yes, this little Close is absolutely refined. After having it on my nose for a while, it quickly felt like I was smelling something very familiar. Even though this is a light and very fresh fragrance, I can definitely identify similarities with Kenzo Amour. Yes, this could be a summer version of Amour. This fluffy-woody aspect, referred to as rice steam in Amour, is also present in this little GAP. Musk, jasmine, vanilla. Any questions? Although I just noticed that Kenzo does not list a jasmine note, which has always been there for my nose.

The vanilla here is indeed very subtle. This is truly a fragrance for spring and summer days. I can also find similarities with Etro Musk. And later in the base note, partially with Bvlgari Blv, which a very dear colleague of mine used to wear. This woody-warm aspect, as well as the salty note, I know very well from both. Yes, Tom Ford’s White Suede has that too, just with a touch of leather in the dry down, which is missing here. Close is quite a skin-close scent that doesn’t come off as very perfumey to me. What smells so pleasant here? Was there something? Or maybe not? That’s exactly what GAP Close is. Come closer, sniff, but whether that’s the perfume you’re perceiving, I won’t tell you. My skin but better.

Yes, I’ve also developed a bit of a crush on this one. And I’ll tell you right away. It is, of course, set. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be me writing this. I wouldn’t rule out that I might look for a large bottle of this cute little egg (it fits, after all) or, specifically, go hunting for it. Like many fragrances I love, this one also has a very typical style from the nineties. Just in a fresh and delicate way.

It is beautiful. Absolutely! Thank you, my dear Gold.

There seems to be quite a bit from GAP that was really charming. My little crush, 1969, is packed with Neroli from start to finish, but in such a beautifully crafted way that I sadly watch my remaining milliliters dwindle away...

Mmmh, that sounds really nice again. Kenzo Amour is a great reference, I like that one a lot too - and I guess I have a soft spot for discontinued fragrances. *sigh*

Nooo! Why is it discontinued again?!! Just when something nice comes out, it’s gone again and you’re just teased with it. So unfair (like my little niece always says ;-)

Well, that's unfortunately the case way too often. Still, it's very nice and wonderfully relatable to read, especially thanks to the many references. Freesia trophy!

You described the scent so aptly and beautifully, and I'm really happy that I matched your taste. I like the Close too. "My skin only better" captures that lightness perfectly.

Another beautiful, inspiring description of the scent! You're a bit unlucky, though, since many of your favorites have been discontinued! Now it's time to search for a close bottle!

I found it very pleasant back when I was young and well-behaved. Today, I might use it for my pillow instead.

The hunting season has begun :-) As long as you don't have to chase after anything too astronomical, everything is good. How nice that you've found such a great scent for yourself (and how sad that it's no longer available…).

That sounds really enthusiastic again. And another fragrance that's off the market. But I know that feeling too. With some scents, the hunt instinct kicks in, and your review suggests that this fragrance is a strong contender for the wish list :-)
