Come Closer

Not all fragrances labeled as aquatic are actually typical aquatics. Luckily! Cašmir Festival Blue, for example, is not, and neither is this little treasure here from GAP. Close has a similar top note to my blue Cašmir. It is more floral, meant to evoke the sea, water, and beach, and definitely not the Calone that I despise.

Once again, this is a scent that has landed in my collection more or less by chance. My dear Gold had a feeling about it. And that feeling was right. Yes, this little Close is absolutely refined. After having it on my nose for a while, it quickly felt like I was smelling something very familiar. Even though this is a light and very fresh fragrance, I can definitely identify similarities with Kenzo Amour. Yes, this could be a summer version of Amour. This fluffy-woody aspect, referred to as rice steam in Amour, is also present in this little GAP. Musk, jasmine, vanilla. Any questions? Although I just noticed that Kenzo does not list a jasmine note, which has always been there for my nose.

The vanilla here is indeed very subtle. This is truly a fragrance for spring and summer days. I can also find similarities with Etro Musk. And later in the base note, partially with Bvlgari Blv, which a very dear colleague of mine used to wear. This woody-warm aspect, as well as the salty note, I know very well from both. Yes, Tom Ford’s White Suede has that too, just with a touch of leather in the dry down, which is missing here. Close is quite a skin-close scent that doesn’t come off as very perfumey to me. What smells so pleasant here? Was there something? Or maybe not? That’s exactly what GAP Close is. Come closer, sniff, but whether that’s the perfume you’re perceiving, I won’t tell you. My skin but better.

Yes, I’ve also developed a bit of a crush on this one. And I’ll tell you right away. It is, of course, set. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be me writing this. I wouldn’t rule out that I might look for a large bottle of this cute little egg (it fits, after all) or, specifically, go hunting for it. Like many fragrances I love, this one also has a very typical style from the nineties. Just in a fresh and delicate way.

No, I'm really just looking, have nothing under my jacket.....

For several years now, we have been going to Juist once a year. We stay for 8 or a maximum of 10 days and enjoy the peace there. This year, we were there for the first time for 14 days, wanting to really relax. To be honest, 14 days of peace were a bit too much for me. After a few days, I became restless; just reading, cycling, beach walks, going out to eat became too monotonous for me. And due to the lack of a perfumery, I visited the drugstore with the red horse in the logo almost daily and studied the drugstore fragrances. Of course, I didn't buy something on every visit, especially not a fragrance. The saleswoman sometimes eyed me suspiciously over the rim of her reading glasses, probably thinking I was up to no good. She always seemed to have something to do on the shelves near me. I was eventually interested in Close by Gap, but there was no tester and only one bottle left in stock. At 11.50 € for 50 ml, I couldn't go wrong and decided to make another blind purchase. The saleswoman was visibly pleased when I bought the fragrance, even though there was no tester available. From then on, I was greeted with a smile and "moin" during my visits.

I perceive Close less as a perfume; rather, I think of it as a friendly, aquatic scent. The beginning is floral, delicate, and fresh; I can barely detect the citrus fruits. A little later, I smell the sea, strong and salty, like a brisk breeze. I like that; I enjoy aquatic scents especially in summer, but I find there are few authentic ones. Aura Maris, which I had, is classified as aquatic here, for example. I don't find that at all; with Aura Maris, I primarily smell fresh citrus fruits and orange, and this fragrance has nothing to do with the sea for me. After an hour, Close develops a slight synthetic note, not disturbing, but also not pleasant; maybe that helps it last longer. No, unfortunately not, it weakens significantly after two hours, becomes warmer, and I still perceive vanilla and woody notes, then Close fades away, which is a pity.

Close is a fresh, uncomplicated summer fragrance, without edges or corners. Those who like it close to the skin and prefer aquatic clean scents will be well served with this fragrance. The longevity is rather poor, but for this price, you can reapply several times. The milky glass bottle feels good in the hand, sprays precisely, and is rather simple; I like it. Close doesn't smell bad on men's skin either; my beloved had to try it, but it disappeared even faster on him. I probably won't use up Close but will exchange or gift it; I just prefer stronger scents.

We know them, we love them, we want them.
The fresh-clean-cream-clean scents.
The white T-shirts among fragrances, indeed.
Here’s another one of them.
It lies somewhere between Muschio Bianco by Acca Kappa and Sea Island Cotton by Bath and Body Works.
This T-shirt is hanging on the line on a radiant summer day.
It is wonderfully airy, fresh.
It feels crisp, as it was washed without fabric softener.
It smells of summer warmth, cotton, freshly washed, and a little bit like the rice shower gel from Yves Rocher.
To my delight, I can even detect the musk note here.
It makes the scent soft, rounded, and a bit powdery.
The longevity is quite good, so I hope this fragrance will be around for a long time.
Hasi, the bottling is on its way.

Fresh Laundry in the Summer Wind on the Line

Hermi has referred to "Close" as a white T-shirt among fragrances. And that actually describes it quite well. The scent is really like a white T-shirt. Unobtrusive, but beautiful. So unobtrusive that you mostly only perceive this scent yourself. Or most people suffer from anosmia regarding this fragrance. *gg*

Fortunately, I can perceive it. The scent starts off a bit citrusy and exceptionally airy. Aquatic notes make one think of the sea along with the salt and a hint of almond blossoms. It's a somewhat rough, clear sea air that you want to breathe in deeply and feels incredibly good. From the floral notes in the heart, I only perceive the freesias - "Close" smells distinctly floral-white. The top and heart notes transition wonderfully harmoniously into one another, and this state lasts relatively long. And the base? A bit of sandalwood and a lot of white musk.

Anyone looking for fragrances with a strong sillage should steer clear of "Close." The scent is only perceptible as a subtle whisper for hours, not as a perfume. However, that is enough for me. I think it leans towards "Washed Cotton #784," also from GAP. It reminds me of fresh laundry, but not like "Fresh Laundry" from Clean. Rather, it reminds me of the laundry drying on a sunny summer day on the clothesline in the wind. It's a soft clean scent without any detergent associations.

Unfortunately, like every other GAP fragrance, it's very hard to find in Germany. Why is that???? To my knowledge, it is only available at dm. And online.

I find it much more beautiful than "Stay" (aquatic-boring) and "Near" (which unfortunately now leaves an unpleasant note on my skin and will be tested a few more times).
