The way you make me feel!
I liiiiiieeeeeeee love Michael Jackson! When I was very little, he was very big, and I still remember how I tore apart my parents' CD shelf, pulled out his masterpieces, and then sang and danced until I had such a sore throat that my voice was just a scratchy croak.
I always promised myself that I would definitely go to one of his concerts when I was older. And then, when I was old enough, he passed away.
I will never forget that day, because it was the last night of my student exchange, and I couldn't sleep at all.
Since then, Michael Jackson has always been my musical companion, and I found this person simply fascinating. However, I wasn't a real hardcore fan with posters and pictures and all the merchandise, because I always thought that was kind of silly.
But then I came across this perfume here through Parfumo, and of course, I was very curious. At the same time, I also knew that I would probably never smell the fragrance since it is no longer available.
Still, I checked eBay, you never know. And lo and behold! A half-full Légende bottle was being offered, although without a box and only half full, but original from 1989.
Bids: 0. Starting price: 0€.
So I immediately placed a bid of one euro and actually already wrote it off, because this rare little treasure would surely skyrocket in value.
Maybe it was due to the only half-full bottle, or because the bid ended on a Monday morning; in any case, I remained the highest bidder with 1€ and could hardly believe my luck!
Yesterday, the handsome bottle arrived at my place, and even though I will of course cherish it, I had to treat myself to a spray on my arm.
I must admit, I didn't expect much. On the one hand, because this was probably some product trying to make more money off his name, and on the other hand, because the fragrance probably wasn't stored cool and dark for 30 years.
So I cautiously sniffed my arm, and I must say, I did NOT expect that!
The perfume smells herbal, spicy, and yet mild. No alcohol or perfume smell, no Maggi-because-it's-spoiled smell, but a very fine, impeccable odor that greets me.
In the development of the scent (oh yes, there is one!), a floral-soapy note joins the spices and herbs, maybe iris or lily of the valley, and a little bit of lilac could be in there too.
Towards the end, a mild coriander note emerges, with a bit of rosemary and bergamot. The longevity is also incredibly good; this morning I can still smell it on my skin, and I can hardly believe it!
I must say, this scent would find a lot of resonance here, I am convinced of that.
All those who like, for example, Coriandre by Jean Couturier, but also fans of fragrances like Eau Savage or Liu would get their money's worth.
Légende also strongly reminds of Guerlain classics, although this one is subtler and probably suitable for those who have some "muff" issues with Guerlain. ;-)
This is probably the first celebrity fragrance that has absolutely convinced me :-D
Because, even if one doesn't like the perfume itself, it is incredibly well made. This may also be because, back in the day, perfume making was truly an art form, so even fragrances that were thrown into the market purely for marketing purposes unintentionally brought a quality that is often missed even in the 'big, expensive' ones today.
I am really glad to welcome Légende to my collection now!
To put it in Michael's words:
The way you make me feel
You really turn me on
You knock me off of my feet
My lonely days are gone
Acha-Ooh!
:-)
