A glimpse on Angel's grandmother
I was really curious to try this because the original Nirmala from 1955 is often cited as the inspiration behind Angel. I read that Mugler's mother wore it. Well, if the current version is similar to the original one at all, it was certainly ahead of its time and the parallels to Angel are undeniable.
Even though this has no patchouli in the notes list, I definitely smell an earthy, dirty patch here, like the patch in Angel, just not as strong. This is sweet too, but Mugler really amped up the sweet notes, Nirmala doesn't have the cotton candy, honey and red berries stickiness that Angel has. But it does have vanilla and a similar creamy musk background hum. I guess Angel could be called Nirmala on steroids.

The opening, of course, is very fruity. Mango, grapefruit and passion fruit are all easy to single out here. They're quite tart and refreshing, but not too sour.
Compared to Angel Eau Croisiere 2019 (orange bottle), which also has these tropical notes, Nirmala is not as Escada-esque and feels warmer and more balanced. I like Nirmala better. It's a lovely summery fruitchouli with a classic touch.

There are some Angel flankers I'd personally prefer in this genre, but if you like this kind of scent, you can't really go wrong with Nirmala.

An ode to joy
An ode to joy.
To the joy for the day I found you To you, elixir of the joie de vivre. The lightness of foot. The rising sun. And the laughing heart On a personal note: Those who know me know that Mugler's angels want something nasty for me. They don't like me, but I want to like you. They don't prick. They sting. Their wings are equipped with crystal thorns that sparkle seductively in the light, but if you get too close to them to admire them, they scratch your face with a flap of their wings and tear your clothes to shreds. The breath of these black-clad creatures breathes icy and steely towards me, leaving me no hope of approach, let alone reconciliation. Even the blue innocent of the Mugler is only slightly more gracious to me. The fact that it then nibbles almonds and currants does not make it any better. All at different times, yes. But at the same time? No, thank you I tried and finally resignedly gave up on the "angels and the innocents".
By chance, I arrived at the end of my search with a blind purchase of Molinards Nirmala, because in principle I like the scent, but the finish has so far clouded my soul. The pyramids of Nirmala and Innocent have more conspicuous similarities than Angel itself, but the fragrance character is still very similar. In the development of the character, however, the essential differences for me become apparent.
The Innocent/Angel direction is right, but it lacks the melancholy that always pulled me into the abyss with the Angels for example. That's why I even dedicated a commentary to Mugler's "La Rose Angel". After countless tests I finally had to get this sorrow from my soul and afterwards I had to slurp a consolation monkey...
Nirmala, on the other hand, is not a being of the shadow and the underworld.
He is a creature of light and hope, flooded with good and merciful thoughts, endowed with unrestrained joy of life and a pure soul. His wings are golden and gentle. And the feathers tenderly wrap around my cheeks when I look at them.
So it starts to spray its innocent/fishing charm immediately after the bottle has been released, but flies the scale up instead of down. My mood barometer rises instantly and the mood seems to get wings as well.
The fragrance creature rises radiantly into the air and, cheered up by its own fragrance, does its rounds on the azure. I do the same in my thoughts, because it is contagious. If the being allows itself a break, it nibbles at a passion fruit with relish. That is probably also the "happy" aspect of this fragrance. It gives the "Innocent / Angel- DNA", which resonates in Nirmala, a lively, fruity good mood vibe, which makes the fragrance for me immediately much more bearable and even so far that the blind purchase may remain.
A couple of times I have taken Nirmala through the daily routine and every time it is the same, almost happy feeling that comes over me. And it lasts all day long Whoever manages to lift the corners of my mouth with so little effort must be rewarded.
And that reward is again one for myself.
(M)A small cycle of happiness so to speak.
It's a pity that Mugler with his dozens of flanks never made it there over the years with me. All he had to do was exchange a single fruit...!

And therefore this text is an ode to joy, dear Nirmala.

To the joy for the day I found you

In the footsteps of the angels
Hello and welcome to a new comment, folks who read comments from me tirelessly (which I very much hope! :D). Today I will tell you a little about Nirmala von Molinard, a fragrance that I have met so many times before and therefore seems quite familiar to me, even if I should know nothing further about it.

So, first of all: What does Nirmala even mean? Well, the name comes from Indian and can be used as a spiritual name and means "The Pure", "The Radiant", "The Impeccable", or generally just pure, clear, shiny or... well... immaculate (I really shouldn't think about certain things with certain words,... I'm so bad, especially when it's summer... :D).

Well, because of these meanings it is of course also a very suitable name for a fragrance, because a radiant or pure fragrance sounds great. And the name of the fragrance itself sounds exotic and mysterious because of its Indian origin, doesn't it? Well, if the scent here smells as good as it sounds, then a really great scent awaits you here, but wait and see... because as you know I tend to complain about everything, hmmm.... D

The fragrance:
The fragrance begins with a sweet, fruity sweetness, where you can first smell a grapefruit for a very short time, but then you can smell more and more passion fruit. In the background there is a slightly spicy note with a honey-like sweetness whose combination reminds me of the DNA of Thierry Mugler's Angel fragrances. That's why this fragrance is nice, but it takes some getting used to, so that not everyone could necessarily like it.
It gets more and more spicy and intense with time, so the fragrance is not fresh despite the sweet fruity beginning, on the contrary, it even seems very heavy (and I test the fragrance now in summer, argh! :D).
Basically, the fragrance remains as described, so it is slightly fruity and sweety-spicy for many hours, with a slightly woody base. Later, some vanilla is added, which, however, does not make the fragrance powdery or soft as usual, but only softens the spicy notes a little at most.
Much later the fragrance is much more flowery and therefore even heavier and more stuffy... and I don't like the later base in the actually not so bad fragrance at all! I told you I'd be complaining... :D

The Sillage and the shelf life:
The Sillage is strong and therefore also very good with one smellable, so you are well perceived even if you are not so close to others. The shelf life is quite long, because the many flowers are long and intense. At least ten hours are definitely in here!

The bottle:
The bottle is rectangular and has been faceted on the sides and edges, making it look like a gemstone, which is what is wanted, since nirmala also means shiny. The square lid, available in both clear and gold-plated, is also faceted to complete the diamond look. At the neck the bottle wears a nice red ribbon. All in all a very nice bottle.

Sooo, the fragrance itself was okay at first. It now came across spicier than I had imagined from the fragrance pyramid and therefore smells for me as described very similar to the Angeldüften of Thierry Mugler and also partly similarly intense. But Nirmala is a little less violent than some Angel fragrances, because the fruity notes loosen up the fragrance for a longer time. However, the fragrance becomes quite flowery in the late base, i.e. after a few hours after spraying on. For me it smells then like so often very very exhausting, because the many flowery scents then seem quite stuffy to me. Because there is then simply nothing more beautiful on the fragrance left for me, but perhaps just some of you like that yes (why also always :D)

All in all, Nirmala is a nice fragrance in itself, but like the Angels it takes getting used to and doesn't suit every taste. This means that you have to test such a fragrance in any case to see for yourself whether the fragrance is something for you or not. Although he looks like an out-of-town scent, I prefer sweeter and looser scents to women (yes, yes, so scents where I always write things like "delicious"!), but you crazy ladies like from time to time such violent scents that can drive every guy away, but maybe that's what you want, so that you have some peace from such strange guys like me, hmmm *sigh*

Before I forget, though: The scent definitely doesn't belong in summer, especially not during a heat wave like now, when it will smother everything and everyone mercilessly!!

Well, that's that again. Well then, have a nice evening and see you next time :)
