Famous, Yet Forever Forgotten
This is less about the scent and more about the observation that fragrances that were "mainstream" in their time and perhaps even a part of the culture can fade into oblivion.
I have the perfume; it still smells good, despite a slightly lost top note. Herbal, green, and no longer fitting for today's times. What a shame.
The original Chanel No. 5 would hardly be worn by anyone today. Too much animal, too little flowers and sweetness. But it has survived. Probably also because the associated fashion house still exists; otherwise... who knows... maybe it would be forgotten today as well.
There is so much that is forgotten, forever lost, and irretrievable. But that's how time is, always ticking forward and only showing the present. Sometimes it's a shame.
