The 90s and even 2000s versions of Amarige were and are still a masterpiece. Then in 2018 L’interdit came out, and stole the soul out of Amarige. It seems silly, but the new reformulation lacks in Dominique Ropion signature vanillic amber accord. That base that peeks even though Portrait of a Lady from Frederic Malle. It is probably still there in the deep drydown of Amarige , but so light, so faint. I’m crushed.
This scent still has a magical opening and heart - a flower bouquet that is so unique, so different from what is in any trend possible. There is a reminiscence of hair spray, but not as chemical as most scents from the same age. Mimosa and tuberose- unforgettable.
Not blind buy safe, but surprisingly easy to wear.
