Typical of post-Y2K Guerlain

I reviewed Guerlain IDYLLE eau de parfum a while back and was decidedly unimpressed. With a fresh sample ready at hand, I decided to give this creation another try today. Conclusion: still mediocre.

I find a somewhat synthetic-smelling lily of the valley suspended in a somewhat sweet patchouli base very reminiscent of hundreds of fragrances in the post-ANGEL period. The fruit is quite a bit less prominent in this composition, but somehow the lily of the valley doesn't really pull its weight. I feel that lily of the valley may be too delicate to use in this sort of sweet patchouli fragrance. The tiny white bells seem to be muffled by the base, which is also too musky for my taste.

If I were to compare IDYLLE to another fragrance, it might be either JACOMO for her or Yves Rocher SO ELIXIR, both of which I find to be equally mediocre. One thing is for sure, as Miss K observes below, this is really nothing like classic Guerlain, and yet another reason why I no longer blind buy from this house, which was my favorite back in the twentieth century...
