A Queen Worth a Courtsy
With Shalimar (I mean this generally, all flankers, forms, concentrations, batches, and vintages), I mostly had a poor relationship.
The classic EdP, for example, will not enter my home, too leathery, too breathtaking (not in a good way) resinous, and so on.
The souffl茅s had nothing that impressed me sustainably; the still available extrait lacks the character of the early batches and pricks my nose with its citrusy top note.
However, there have always been very good flankers or fragrances that bore the name Shalimar, even if one couldn't immediately find much similarity to the original: Fleur D'Oranger was beautifully Spanish-orange, the lemon-creamy fluffiness of Parfum Initial is still unmatched, and the "Route de..." trilogy was an example of 3 wonderful variations of vanilla.
Now another one is added.
And it is fitting for the occasion (100 years of Shalimar) good and mainstream.
Again, I am reminded of incense sticks, Nag Champa, Bois d'Armenie, Fumerie Turque, a smoky, crisp vanilla note plays the leading role.
It lasts long on the skin and is directly placed at the top of the "If I Were Rich" list.

Ur-Shalimar has been my favorite since I first discovered it, which feels like 100 years ago, haha. I like vanilla, but not too much of it.

If you say so, I believe you right away... Shalimar has never been "my" Guerlain either. I'm on Team Mitsouko... or even Apr猫s l'ond茅e...

Old ALO Extrait is unmatched, beautiful, and sad.

It's not really tempting me right now. Although it does sound somewhat interesting. Let's see.

"Incense sticks, Nag Champa, Bois d'Armenie, Turkish smoke" sounds pretty good to me!
