Bitter almonds, spices and a powdery, vintage feel
Glad to know this extrait won't be making it into my collection. My wallet can now breathe a sigh of relief. I've always been pretty vocal about my dislike for powdery fragrances because they have this vintage, old perfumey kind of vibe (I'm trying to avoid the term "old woman / grandma" as there's been a debate on the use of these terms recently, but that's what I associate powderiness to) and this one makes no exceptions.
A strong overwhelming powdery accord hits my nose. Bitter almonds with an underside of creaminess. A smooth cocoa underneath. A blend of different spices that further reinforces the powderiness I'm getting. Sweet vanilla underneath. Pretty linear all in all. Reminded me of certain Lush products I've smelled in store and it has that body lotion, functional aspect to it. It's really not my cup of tea. I'm still not quite sure what tonka is supposed to smell like since almonds and spices are the biggest notes that come out on my skin. I'm guessing I prefer when tonka is not the star and acts as a support in base notes (although I do not seem to have a lot of fragrances with a tonka note in my collection).
If you like powdery, vintage fragrances with some sweetness, this could be good. Unfortunately, I don,t have the nose for it. Glad I got to try an extrait though!
