Beautiful perfume!
This perfume takes you in three moves.

First is the invitation to a luscious and extravagant tea party where each guest has an elegant flute of the finest champagne and beautiful people are feeding you the juiciest berries you've ever tasted. The host signals tea time, and the air is filled with the delicate scent of fruit and tea sparkling with brightness.

Second is the sudden downpour when the guests are a little tipsy and their cheeks are as pink as this perfume's next move. Everyone is laughing as the sun peeks out from the clouds, its rays beginning to warm the dewy petals as you run your fingers across giant white magnolia blossoms, releasing clouds of heady fragrance into the fresh, green air. Breathless, carefree beauty.

Third is the seductive glances you notice from the sexy stranger that caught your eye when everyone else ran for cover. They invite you for a drink, something a little stronger than the champagne. They know a surprising amount of history about the property and take you to a cozy little parlor room. You're sipping your drinks, enjoying the rush if it all, and every time you get close, you can smell their intoxicating and alluring scent. Earthy, smoky, and deliciously musky. Your hair is still radiating the subtle scent of the earlier floral shower as your knees brush under the table, and in that electric moment you know the final move has been made.

Checkmate, indeed.

Edited to add that I woke up after sleeping 8+ hours and could still smell it on my skin. Upgraded the longevity!

From Sparklingly Bright to Old Folks' Rose Garden...
Very bright, sparkling, vibrant opening note that's truly amazing. Alas, this note lasts for maybe 20 seconds, then it just turns to an "old folks' rose garden" note. A few minutes later, the rose mellows out a bit and the fragrance becomes more balanced. That said, I have no clue how the Bow Tie Fragrance Guy and others think this leans masculine. 6/10 overall. If they could sustain that opening note and have it linger more in the dry down, it would be a 9+.

Perhaps my nose is broken; perhaps my sense of smell is compromised by this thick Miami humidity - not sure. All I know is I had such high hopes when that opening note hit, and then....I got hit in the face with a rose bouquet from Publix.

Multifaceted Rose Fragrance
Next up in the range from the American brand Mind Games. I really like the brand with its modern style and the chessboard design of the bottles. The only thing holding me back from adding one to my collection is the price. Let's see, maybe one or two will make it in. I'm not opposed, but for some, I'm still waiting for the right offer. At over €200 (RRP €270/100ml), it should be an all-around great package. Let's take a look at this fragrance and set the price aside. What direction does this scent take? Clearly a rose overkill and perfect for rose fans who want this note to take center stage. For me, rose is a wonderful note that not only shines in oriental creations but also in this sensually pure rendition. Those who enjoy fragrances like Portrait of a Lady Eau de Parfum might really like this Checkmate as well. The scent is not a dupe or a copy, but stylistically these fragrances head in a similar direction.

As in all my reviews of the brand: the packaging and bottle are fantastic, and just because of the bottle, I will probably treat myself to at least one from this brand. Which one it will be, I don't know yet, as I still want to check out a few fragrances.
The star of the creation is, of course, the rose combination, which gives it full throttle right from the start and quickly takes center stage. In this rose mix, you get many facets of the rose: fresh, clean, sensual, warm, a bit soapy. This is also due to the mix of Bulgarian rose, May rose, and Centifolia. They complement each other well and create a very harmonious overall picture. At the start, you also get a slightly sparkling champagne note. This is not boozy, but it fits wonderfully into this rose combination. Additionally, there’s a spicy-fruity Davana and a subtle berry note from red currant. A great combo that works really well in mild temperatures with a warm mix that has both light-fresh and clean vibes. Over time, the patchouli note also comes through nicely, which, as expected, harmonizes well with rose. Rose-patchouli combinations convince me, and here too, there are noble and serious vibes that leave an impression. Plus, a note of slightly spicy tobacco. Overall, an extremely pleasing rose creation that is also really well wearable by men, even though rose is often categorized as a women's note.
Performance is in the medium and slightly above-average range. I would estimate the longevity at around 8 hours. Sillage is also in the medium range and quite good in the first hours.

Overall, a rose fragrance that convinces me, but doesn't blow me away for this price range. I would wear it, but probably wouldn’t buy it. However, fans of rosy combos can definitely give this a good test. A noble fragrance that already shows quality.

Opens fruity-fresh-floral (rose with a fizzy feel like LLI's Dom Rosa). Drydown is a VERY heavy musk, various florals & hints of patchouli.

Phenomenal opening that fades to florals. Lots of florals. Uninspiring, but pleasant.

Multidimensional fragrance at opening, middle, and drydown. All three are very enjoyable from bright-sparkling to heady-rose to sexy-musk!

Agree with others here. Loved it at first spray — hated having it on later in the day. Too sweet and floral in the drydown for me (a man).

Who checkmates whom here? The alcohol, the blossoms, and the fruits or the other way around? Fruits (I doubt it's just currants), +

One of the most diffuse fruity florals I've smelled lately: indistinctly floral, intense fruitiness, and very expensive.

A decent floral-fruity for me, dominated by rose, which tends to lean towards fabric softener in terms of longevity.

Sour rose power in a spice mix and a hint of fruity accents.

Starts off feminine, fruity & floral. Then tobacco takes over. Berries & flowers mix back in. Don't write it off too soon! Great progression!

Fine and gentle tobacco, rum mixed with rose. Very gourmand. Beautiful and long-lasting. A bit too much flamboyance.
