Memory
Your lamplight is burning holes
Recover the damage
Bring it all home
Follow the bliss
Just like a summer song
Please stay there forever
I'll try to remember
Come home
Volbeat - For Evigt (2016)
She was 16 and wanted to slowly belong to the girls who seemed a bit more grown-up. She picked up some things from the others. And one of them, C., who was one of the nicer ones to her, asked her one day which perfume she wore. She also wanted to wear a scent from time to time. So she wished for the same fragrance from her parents for her birthday that C. had mentioned.
That this scent was actually not suitable for a sixteen-year-old didn't matter to her. When she went out on weekends, she carefully dabbed the fragrance behind her ears, with which she felt so grown-up. Noble spices, a geranium rose, and a clove, fine woods, and a dreamily elegant vanilla surrounded her. Yes, this is what being grown-up feels like. The scent was heavy and sensual and lingered on her skin for many hours. The longer she wore it, the more prominent the vanilla became. In her memory, there is also a rose. Or was it the geranium rose? She doesn't recall the tobacco scent in detail. If it was tobacco, then definitely fresh tobacco. No lighting up was done.
The memory of her very first perfume comes immediately after sniffing Blue Vanille by Henry Jacques. Of course, hers was by no means as noble and not as expensive, but this vanilla and the spices that greet here are good acquaintances. She didn't own the small bottle for long. In the end, the scent wasn't 100 percent her thing, which is why it soon had to make way for others, but the memory of it is all the more beautiful today.
If it weren't a Henry Jacques with an extraordinary price, this fine memory might even enrich the collection.
A memory from your life? Accompanied by an incredibly fitting and excellent song by Volbeat. I really like that one too. But the scent definitely wouldn't be my genre ;)
If it weren't for this grotesquely overpriced brand, I might be interested in the scent... but not like this! I'd rather read your lovely review; that will have to do!
You've taken a beautiful journey through time. Sometimes it's good that the price keeps it as a memory... Vanilla wouldn't be my preference, but I would be curious to know how sorted scents smell...
Well, I had Opium at 16 too, and shortly after that, Must de Cartier. Not exactly fitting, but whatever. I had fun :-)
Can I ask what a bottle of that fancy brew costs?
The blue vanilla sounds very interesting and good! Except for the price... Thanks to a friend, I used to wear Ana茂s Ana茂s, which I never really liked. But back then, I felt very grown-up wearing it... silly.
Cautious boldness in using the scent, but just a light dab! I really enjoyed accompanying the narrator, whether it's the author or not, on their journey of memories.
Did you write about little Polly here?
Nice comment... indeed a very lovely scent. But the price...
And there are many beautiful vanilla scents that aren't quite as expensive.
You've already introduced many beautiful alternatives for this little dabber bottle! So the loss is limited, and it leaves us with, as it should be, the lovely memories more or less preserved. Beautiful personal story!
Very beautiful scent story (seasoned with a pleasant touch of sentimentality), definitely a lovely fragrance and a very pretty bottle. An extraordinary nostalgia trophy!
Thank you so much for the beautiful lyrics and the presentation of this extraordinary perfume... My generation wore scents that were always inappropriate at 16, looking back. Back then, I only knew women's perfumes like No. 5, Miss Dior, or my grandmother's Tosca. Heavy metal wasn't around yet, but at least the vanguard was already on the way when I attended concerts by The Who and Jethro Tull, who were performing in the Stuttgart area at that time.
This sounds absolutely wonderful again. And really, it doesn't matter what the fragrance is called if you like it.
This brand has beautiful scents, but as I've mentioned a few times, the prices are quite ambitious.
Great review. I wonder why the scent is called Blue Vanilla. Vanilla is clear, but blue? The fragrance pyramid reminds me of a men's scent. There's too much spiciness and leather for my taste. I can't even remember my first perfume. After turning 18, I only wore Diorissimo for many years. I still like it today.
Oh man! If it weren't so damn expensive, it would have been mine a long time ago. It had me from the very first moment.
Could the beautiful story be autobiographical?.. ;)
