I was really looking forward to testing this one. That excitement faded quickly. The synthetic notes in the base bothered me. I noticed them in Tom Ford's Tobacco Oud too (probably even more!), but that one appealed to me much more. Still: solid scent.
You know how rare authentic tobacco is… This Cherry Pipe Vibe is especially not cheesy and natural. You might like it!
The Jinkoh is sold out, so it’ll be the Teone Cuir et Tabac or this one now… based on the current tobacco rankings. :)
It starts with a medicinal glue-like scent, which feels unnatural and bitter, and I don't really like it. But the tobacco comes in pretty quickly and is very dry-spicy, earthy, sharp, and serious, rather than liqueur-like, playful, and sweet. The main player of the fragrance! Finally.
There's a smoky, woody cedar behind it, and later a leathery cherry fruit (castoreum & Thai oud?) that feels like a shift from a serious cigar to a sweet cherry pipe, which I think is great.
The drydown is balsamic-musky-vanilla with a hint of cigar cherry at the end. If the harsh start weren't there and the tobacco were a bit less dry and sharply spiced, it would be an instant buy.
I really need to test it on my skin a second time, as it was much more balanced on the test strip and had more cherry Thai oud pipe vibes, not too sharp-spicy, just how I want it… Plus, the transition to the desired direction on the skin took longer. If it turns out differently/better, then I’ll upgrade my rating and buy it…
That's quite a statement.
