Avoid House of Orpheus – Unreliable, Unprofessional and Customer-Hostile
House of Orpheus is, by far, one of the most unprofessional and unreliable perfume brands I have ever dealt with. The owner, Marcus McCoy, has openly admitted that he no longer cares about perfumery, the industry or even his own customers. This is reflected in how he operates – delays are intentional, customer service is non-existent and if you dare to ask about your order, you’ll be met with hostility rather than assistance.

If you browse his own public statements, you'll see that he openly says:
• He dislikes the perfume industry and his customers.
• He only ships when he feels like it.
• If you expect normal customer service, he will cancel your order rather than assist you.
• He has lost all passion for perfume and is more focused on blacksmithing.

Given all of this, House of Orpheus should not be considered a legitimate business anymore. Any company that continues to accept orders while stating that they have “zero spoons” for customer service is one that is actively stealing from customers while refusing to uphold basic responsibilities.

Buy at your own risk and don’t expect to get your order, your money’s worth or even a basic response if something goes wrong.

The Man that would be Charuto
Charuto slept on hay sacks or old wooden boxes and rolled stubs from cigar remnants. I had almost forgotten him. In one of the old dark alleys, the bitter-sharp lanterns buzzed light beams of valerian into his veiled eyes. His dress made of mulchy tobacco, tattered, was poured over his leather face, beginning to flow over the sweetish skin, the patina of lichens and mosses, the spicy barks that had to wither, the raisin crumbs in the earthy crusts. I could not take my eyes off it.
**
Marcus R. McCoy, perfumer and operator of House of Orpheus, claims to have acquired the language of plants from shamans and the craft of distillation from the origins of alchemy. His creations move beyond the physical, crossing the liminal boundaries. He writes hymns to Greek gods and burns incense for them. Sometimes, perhaps, also cigars.
"Charuto" (port.: cigar) begins with the bitter-sharp, valerian-like notes of castoreum, which reveals its leathery aromas only in the heart from initially aromatic-spicy tobacco as well as slightly smoky-earthy and minimally fruity notes of oud. As the tobacco increasingly develops towards sweet-warm, almost damp-mossy aromas, the woods become deeper and darker, taking on more of the character of barks. The encounter with Charuto is strangely confusing, aromatic-spicy, and dirty-seductive, moderate but long-lasting.

A tobacco-led fragrance that captures flower and leaf, rather than pipe or cigar and then fades to a woody-animalic-leather remnant.

Similar to the Cunning Man
Less fruity-sweet resins
More golden-brown, aromatic spiced tobacco
The rest serves the nobility & darkness of the tobacco

Really strong, this alluring tobacco scent without smoke, leathery accents thanks to castoreum, this blend is captivating and attractively dirty.

Great tobacco scent. Dark and moist. No smoke. Leather, dirty, and sexy stuff. Very alluring. Oud is recognizable as tropical wood.

Slightly sweet tobacco with leathery castoreum. The oud adds dark facets and a hint of smoke. I don't perceive cedar. Odd.

A similar (mourning) game as in "Cunning Man". The opening is promisingly rough and disturbing, this one also falls apart quite (...)
