Alive in Monotony
To be honest, the BOSS brand has not convinced me in terms of fragrances so far. A bottle of Hugo Deep Red temporarily found its home with me, gifted by my partner. Unfortunately, I didn't like the scent as much as he did. The same story goes for Boss Jour pour Femme - unlike Deep Red, I found this one somewhat suitable for the office and actually wore it a few times. But the feeling of "YES, this is MY scent!" did not occur with either of them. A dear friend wore Boss Orange Eau de Toilette for a while, and I found the scent quite acceptable on her.
Now, as part of a perfume order, a sample of Alive arrived at my doorstep. The name appeals to me, promising liveliness and a bit of joy. So, let's try it: The scent starts citrusy-fruity, but the citrus fades away almost completely quite quickly, and floral notes take over.
Jasmine is in the foreground here, embedded in a synthetic-sounding tangle of floral notes. Maybe you know this: it smells floral, but you can't identify the individual notes, perhaps with a lot of imagination, you might guess that there could be a rose. Honestly: If I hadn't read it in the fragrance pyramid, I wouldn't recognize it.
One might kindly call it "beautifully intertwined." My nose perceives it rather as expressionless; the scent quickly drifts off into the endless sea of insignificance. And unfortunately, it doesn't resurface gasping for breath to show: "Hey, I'm alive!"
The floral mixture unfortunately doesn't really develop further on my skin. It is discernible that there is a base. Over time, the scent becomes a bit warmer, but here too, I can't pick out any individual notes. An expected development towards woody (sandalwood, cedarwood) or slightly earthy (moss) also fails to materialize. The flowers seem to stifle any depth.
My conclusion: as promising as the fragrance pyramid sounds, I find the scent disappointing in its execution. I would have loved to sniff a nice apple again like in All About Eve Eau de Parfum or "Be Delicious (Eau de Parfum) | DKNY / Donna Karan," some citrusy freshness like in "Light Blue (Eau de Toilette) | Dolce & Gabbana," or, if in doubt, just a beautiful rose or an earthy-woody base. I find none of that here. Instead, it's plain monotony.
As a go-to or no-brainer, in my opinion, it doesn't even come close to Chance Eau Tendre Eau de Toilette or "Light Blue (Eau de Toilette) | Dolce & Gabbana."
