A Lobster in the Woods
The Hummer H2. Or rather, the Hummer. One of those vehicles that immediately exemplifies the clichéd American lifestyle. Big, bigger, biggest.
Although one must admit that some of the American rides are ones you would actually like to drive yourself. Especially the Hummer seems to be the wet dream of mostly male drivers. A buddy from school once said: “This car is so awesome, you’ll get yourself off when you see it!” … um, well.

So what do you think when you see the Hummer? It stands for everything that is raw, strong, powerful.
And perhaps one might expect a scent that reflects this. A fragrance that is full of testosterone and embodies pure masculinity. Let’s see…

The scent:
It smells like gasoline, oil, and metal.
No,… of course not.
So, the scent starts surprisingly fresh with lemon and even mandarin, which has light, sweet notes in the background. There is also a certain synthetic quality that makes the fragrance feel like a “typical sporty scent.”
A little later, green notes come into play. At first, I couldn’t place them anywhere and wondered if cardamom smells like that, but then you “see” that it’s the specified fir notes. Because a few minutes later, the scent smells of conifers or firs and doesn’t smell bad at all.
The fir scent becomes significantly stronger over time. A light black pepper scent adds a bit of spice to the fragrance. Unfortunately, the synthetic touch also becomes a bit stronger.
In the base, the scent is sweeter, otherwise it remains woody, with a hint of incense.

The sillage and longevity:
The scent is above average in strength and can be sniffed out from a distance. Perhaps a small scent cloud is left behind.
The longevity is average, lasting about six hours.

The bottle:
The body… okay, the bottle is long and flat and somewhat resembles the design of the H2, but only a little. The front prominently displays Hummer H2. The cap is cylindrical and black, with punched holes or round indentations at the top. Overall, nothing really special.

Hmm… to be completely honest, I expected something more powerful. What came out is a scent that, aside from the synthetic note, is quite nice, but radiates something that would suit a nature lover more than a Hummer driver.

Sure, one could also barrel through a forest in a Hummer (and knock down all the trees…), but anyone who does that, I’ll send my cat after them, who can scratch pretty badly :D

Anyway, the scent is fresh and could pass as a sporty fragrance. It might even be used for going out, as the sweet notes at the end become quite strong and the scent, together with the woody notes, doesn’t smell bad at all. However, it also lacks any distinctive features and smells like hundreds of other fragrances.

If you like that and aren’t bothered by the synthetic note, you might want to take a look… or better said, stick your nose into the scent! After all, it costs less than 15 euros for 75 mL.

Still available for purchase
No panic, the H2 is still available just like the H1 - a visit to an Elizabeth Arden store (that's where the lobsters come from) proves it.

H1 is grand, H2 is similarly good - in fact, it's almost the same scent plus additional sweetness. Thus, H2 lies between H1 and a Chanel Allure. Which of the lobster scents is preferred is certainly a matter of taste; the silly packaging is common to both, as well as the long-lasting wear and the high-quality scent. Definitely a hidden gem.
