Assertive, complex, boozy, spicy cherry

Starts with a burst of fruit macerated in mildly bitter, aperitif liquor, well-larded with black peppery resin. The fruit is cherry, primarily, though some might read it as ripe and juicy plum.

On my exposed skin, the fruit dries down quickly into a mildly sweet and fruity resinous accord. There's a strong impression of dry, burnt wood - think of the slightly burnt, extinguished end of a stick of dry kindling. To the extent that vanilla and tobacco are present to me, they underpin the more overt cognac note, never dominating with either harsh tobacco leaves or gourmand sweetness, which is a good thing.

What I am reading as an interesting, mildly salty - (not fresh at all, but rather almost black olive) - note develops several hours into the wear, merging with a sherryesque, oxidized liquor - the syrupy, drying puddle of the cognac that you spilled on the counter at the party last night.

Like most cherry scents, the sweetness and aromaticity of the fruit is gone fairly quickly. So the question is whether or not you like what is left. Although I find this to be a very attractive fragrance in its category, I prefer the fruitiness of Tom Ford's Lost Cherry as well as it's woodier, creamier drydown.
