Calone cologne
I have two drawers for my fragrance wardrobe. The best are literally “top drawer” scents while the dogs are kept in the bottom drawer. Today I decided to give one the fragrances relegated to the bottom drawer a second chance to move up. A shot at redemption. I knew it would have to be Izod when saw the little blue bottle all by itself looking so lonely and pitiful here on the brand page.
Izod by Izod is the stuff most American men call “cologne” and by the time it dries down they’re at least phonetically correct because that’s about all you can smell: Calone.
Seriously, that’s it.
Even potentially conspicuous base notes like tobacco and incense are nowhere to be sniffed. And, lest anyone even THINK it, I seriously doubt Izod was shooting for a Calone version of Eccentric Molecules ‘Molecule 01’ (entirely Iso E Super). Although Izod may have unintentionally succeeded...
Now to say something nice about Izod because my mom, like all good moms, taught me, "Don't say to say anything, unless you can say something nice." Well, here it is: for a few unbelievable minutes Izod possesses something of a mojito top note! Really! It's actually a light, fresh and unique combination of lime and mint. I don't know of another fragrance with a predominantly lime top note; although there must be one. Anyway, it’s too bad Izod didn’t allow their perfumers to pursue that line of originality. But like so many designer labels they hedged their bets on the Calone trend and that's why you now find Izod for $5 in the check out aisle at Marshalls.
Sorry, but it's back to the cellar for you, my little blue friend.
