The hype - and what's left of it..

Without a doubt: Le Mâle Elixir is the most hyped fragrance of 2023, even ahead of Althaïr. What all video reviews had in common was its extreme longevity and dramatic sillage. But not only the common YouTuber, but also on Parfumo, the fragrance achieved absolute top marks, especially in these two disciplines: "This is a candidate for 'spraying into the room' and running through - otherwise far too strong," I read recently.

I was correspondingly irritated after testing the blind-bought bottle: yes, I really like the scent phenomenally well for the first two to three hours (more on this below). But after that, I hardly noticed anything - similar to the Eros Parfum (maybe it's fragrance notes such as vanilla/tonka bean or benzoin, which both fragrances have in common, that my nose can't "locate" well in drydown?) In any case, a friend of mine who was there that evening and sat opposite me for hours playing a board game also didn't notice the ten or so sprays I had applied. So not at all. And: I also had to search for the scent on my pillow about two hours after spraying it.

I therefore decided to buy a sample, despite the bottle: of course I didn't ask about the batch beforehand and got the same one. So I also had to get a second sample, because: You don't treat yourself to anything else. This time I specifically went for the older batch, but again: No differences at all.

In this context, please take a look at the video by robes08 ("Samplin' Samples"), in which the performance is, in my opinion, correctly assessed. The market mechanisms are also discussed: No, you don't have to be paid from France to succumb to them...

Nevertheless, the new Seeman is here to stay, because for the first two to three hours it practically became my favorite fragrance: for me, it exudes vibes of Dark Temptation (yes, you read that right, the AXE stuff) and Eros Parfum. Simply a fresh sweetness, here with a chocolate background and a love of nuts. (In my opinion, it is only marginally related to Le Mâle Le Parfum, to which the elixir is sometimes compared: Fortunately, because I don't like the perfume)

What remains? Well, I've learned to watch less YouTube. And I've learned to love even weak fragrances.
