The Golden Amber

After the wonderful Vespero, I now encountered the second amazing Jeroboam fragrance that truly captivated me. Both scents possess an incredible beauty that I don't often come across throughout the year. They both create a wonderful fragrance tapestry that is not so easy to unravel.
Similar to Akkad, we find here an extraordinary balance that makes amber a true delight. Almost all notes are present at once: mild incense, amber, and Peru balsam. For me, these are the 3 pillars that define amber. Amber has always been a somewhat complex note for me, especially when it comes off a bit sweaty, meaning it has a slightly unclean smell. Or when it turns out too honey-sweet. Ambre Nuit and Nuit have been my favorites so far. I believe I can already count amber as a third. Perhaps also because the fragrance leans a bit towards Akkad. I would geographically assign both scents to ancient Mesopotamia, as Akkad even directly references it. O Hira by SHL has a similar amber note, which, despite its absurd price, did not captivate me. However, pure amber (10 years old), which we recently tested in a training session, comes very close... wonderful... you just want to close your eyes and enjoy quietly.
In amber, this is mainly due to the high-quality smelling essences and notes; it smells zero like chemicals, a slightly exotic yet warming mix. I am very sure that one or two notes here are not listed, as it smells too dense, too tightly woven. The heart and soul of the fragrance is the Peru balsam, which I first encountered in Dezember by Erik Kormann, and I was already enchanted then. Unfortunately, it seems to be on the EU's blacklist. Overall, everything in amber smells very balsamic, resinous, slightly smoky, and even the sweetness feels very natural, but everything only gains its golden glow through the balsamic fusion.
Akkad was already a golden-bright, light fragrance, and I can also detect such a radiance in amber, just a few lux dimmer.
Another highlight in amber is this slight alcoholic note, which could stem from rum or cognac, but I'm not sure. This note adds the finishing touch to the fragrance.
Constant sniffing of the back of the hand is pre-programmed here. When worn correctly, the incense note, not sacred, is slightly more prominent than the alcohol, but as mentioned at the beginning, everything is perfectly balanced here. With the duration of wear, the sweetness gradually diminishes, making it suitable even for those who dislike sweetness. This fragrance is also suitable for both genders; some notes lean one way, while others lean another. Still, I would love to smell this fragrance on a woman with sun-warmed skin; it must smell simply wonderful and bring out the golden hue of the scent.
The longevity of this extrait is predictably very good, like with Vespero, very good but not exaggerated. The same goes for the sillage. Great fragrance and highly recommended.

A truly beautiful scent, wonderfully appreciated by you! I also find the fragrance amazing, but I wouldn't have known that it was the Peru balsam. Again, learned something new-thank you!

Well, there's definitely some sweetness in it, but it's neither sugary nor annoying. I find it to be very high-quality, quite special and refined!

Great comment! And if it's not too sweet, even better. I find the bottles from the brand really beautiful.

I'm currently getting to know and appreciate amber. My current favorite: Ambra Luminosa by Neuffer.

There's something about Peru in the aromatic blog: http://www.aromatisches-blog.de/2014/01/12/parfum-und-gluck-teil-2/ So it seems that Peru balsam is banned, but not Peru balsam oil.

I really enjoyed reading this, thank you. I'm not really into amber at the moment, but it's nice to be able to enjoy a comment without immediately adding to my wishlist. :-)

That sounds interesting! I quite like Akkad, even though sometimes it’s a bit too soft-sweet for me.

Why do you assume that real copal (young amber) and other similar amber resins will be banned? They are also used in expensive varnishes and lacquers for musical instruments, etc. Then amber would have to be banned too. That can't happen! Lately, I've found wonderful amber scents like O Hira and Ambra Aurea to be overwhelming and strange. This must be such a wonderful fragrance as well. One should stock up on an extrait. Just in case, a phase like the one I'm going through right now can disappear again. **Pokal**
