More Shrub than Berry, or: British Understatement, Perfectly Balanced
We are dealing with a Cologne here, and you can tell. "Blackberry & Bay" (BB) is a rather intimate and delicate representative of its kind. But an immensely good one! The flowers in the heart note and the predominant classification as a women's fragrance kept me from testing it for a long time. However, neither of these aspects stands out, nor do they align with my personal assessment.
Let’s get straight to the main ingredient that gives it its name, the blackberry! Here too, I was concerned that I would end up smelling more or less like a jar of Schwartau jam ... not at all! Because whatever essences are used in BB - what unfolds within me is more the feeling of standing in front of a ripe blackberry bush in late summer. The fruit is perceptible, but not dominant. The green, woody, and earthy notes always resonate in a rather natural way. This is primarily due to the bay leaf, cedar, and vetiver, as it goes without saying that no blackberry hedge was cleared, put into a shredder, and everything contained was somehow extracted! ;-)
The great strength of this Cologne clearly lies in its calmness and in its seductive aroma, which leaves plenty of room for the imagination. Nothing is overly pronounced here, which some might initially miss. For that reason, I find myself bringing my hand to my nose again and again, and even yesterday before falling asleep, I smelled something sweet-balsamic that is certainly not meant for the glaring world outside.
Although it olfactorily strikes a completely different chord, I would most closely compare BB, based on the impression, the craftsmanship, the fine nuances, and the understated nature, to "Voyage D'Hermes" in my (!) collection. In the current mainstream, the blackberry would certainly be a heavily sweetened fruit and not a plant that is perfectly harmonized with a late summer environment. Therefore, a big compliment!

Such a lovely natural scent, I find the blackberry with bay leaf to be fruity and herbal as the dominant notes.
