They Don't Make 'Em Like They Used To...
*This is a review of the vintage Pour Monsieur (Made in France).

Pour Monsieur opens with an aromatic herbal citrus accord derived primarily of lemon and basil coupling with powdery lavender. As the composition enters its early heart the citrus quickly dissipates, leaving the powdery lavender to now join with supporting dull carnation and powdery oakmoss rising from the base that gives the composition's fragrance profile a green tinge. As it makes its way further through its middle the lavender fades as the powdery oakmoss gains in intensity, supported by dry powdery vanilla. During the late dry-down the powdery vanilla remains though now in diminished support as an uncovered stark leather and relatively dry sandalwood tandem controls through the finish. Projection is average and longevity very good at 9-11 hours on skin.

Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur (vintage) was created in 1972, and in some ways it really shows. This is a composition whose style has long since passed. While the style may be out of fashion, the composition is just as worthy of notice and admiration now as it was back then. The first thing that impresses is how well the aromatic herbal citrus top notes have held up considering the age of the vintage bottle used for this review. They really tickle your nose as the powdery lavender blends in perfectly. It has been a long time since I sniffed Pour Monsieur in its vintage form, so I forgot just how much oakmoss is in this stuff. Don't go in looking for a very mossy presentation though as it presents primarily as slightly green powder here. The oakmoss derived powder can be a bit too much on its own, then as the powdery vanilla joins in the level does get higher than desirable for the powder averse. That said, just as the powder nears distracting levels it never quite crosses over that line and diminishes substantially during the dry-down. Oh, and what a great dry-down it is... The combination of the dry sandalwood with hard leather works fabulously with the remaining powdery vanilla to take off some of the bite. That late dry-down payoff has got to be the best part of the composition by far. The bottom line is the approximate $65 per 75ml bottle on the aftermarket Pour Monsieur (vintage) may be a bit out of style, but it proves they just don't make 'em like they used to, earning a "very good" to "excellent" 3.5 to 4 stars out of 5 rating. Recommended to perfume lovers who are more interested in old fashioned classics over the latest trends.

Definitely a men's fragrance
This fragrance is not looking for adventures or excitement but it is very calming that makes others show respect... It will definitely not be a wasted experience on the contrary it will be a great experience and I am sure you will try to own it again. The beauty of this perfume is that you will not find anything but the original of it.

Old School Masculine Fragrance
Very nice, 70's-80's style masculine fragrance. Not for guys who want sweet/floral/fruity type perfumes. Scent is nice and dry/not sweet, with the geranium and carnation notes adding a subtle twist. Not smooth, but has a nice sharp edge. Performance is reasonable - around 5 to 6 hours for me and projection about arms length for about 2 hours. Better performance, of course, if also sprayed on your shirt. Based on the price, 18 to 20 bucks, you can spray as much as you want to up the performance as well.

It's a spicy/herbal scent that isn't heavy. Can work anytime of year, day or night. For a young man, you'd be bucking the trend, of course. The bottle with the chrome top is different and could have come right off the set of Logan's Run. This perfume is an easy reach for a guy wanting a straight forward, classy fragrance. Simple pick for day-to-day use which I like in a stretch every once in a while. Good, too, for those times you can't decide on a fragrance or don't have time for deliberation.

Dont cheat yourself, buy Vintage
I have a vintage bottle made in Paris with 2 more 1st formulation bottles on the way. I simply REFUSE to spend any money on a fragrance from the 1970s, simply because it won't be the same, not even close so if you want the TRUE stuff then look for the original from Jacqueline Cochran or the Shulton company via 1974. It'll be worth every penny. This fruity beginning followed by a spicy middle then followed by a woody mossy finish was never on my radar as a wee lad growing up in the 1970s. Since then I've become a collector and i have found room for all of those masculine scents of long ago. The smell of this fragrance is unlike anything on the market today and I'm glad because when i rock this i know I'll definitely turn heads because i won't be wearing Sauvage or Dolce or Dior etc. This stuff just reeks pleasantly of a time long gone. It actually makes me depressed to think about it. At least there's ebay or mercari to go to when I'm searching for a classic. PCPM is not an earth shaker or a sillage monster, it's just a classic fougere that sadly isn't made anymore and the best news of all is that a vintage bottle only sent me back $20!!! Now THAT'S what i call a bargain

Classical sandalwood fragrance
I have just recently bought a bottle of Pierre Cardin's Pour Monsieur. I love classical fragrances, and as a scent this one is 100% that: a sandalwood heavy, classical barbershop. I have never smelled any vintage bottles of Pour Monsieur, but unfortunately I have to state that current formulation has absolutely no longevity.

I have tested Pour Monsieur now a few times, last time was total 9 sprays, 3x3 pattern: 3x same spot inside both my elbows and 3x on clothes. After 2 hours, it is totally gone. Not even a skin scent. Very unfortunate; the smell is good but no longevity at all makes it a useless fragrance. Not worth even $10.

Classic amber fougere that has been watered down and to a great extent unfortunately butchered nowadays. The vintage version is great!

Classical sandalwood fragrance, but today zero longevity. Total 6 sprays 3x same spot and it is all gone in 2 hours. Not worth even $10.

"Sex Appeal" & "Old Spice" decided to have a son... à la française. Clove and patchouli set the tone. Fantastic retro scent.
