Oldschool Brett!
Hello dear ones. This is my first review on this platform. And at this point, I'll start from the very beginning.
A friend of mine wore this fragrance over 30 years ago. When I was old enough, I got this scent for myself. It was one of my first fragrances, at the beginning of the 90s. Today, 30 years later, it has become very rare and expensive. Nevertheless, this perfume is absolutely insane!!
The sillage and longevity are very strong for me, just as they were for my friend back then. The scent itself is an old-school fougère. It is fresh, woody, spicy, citrusy, mossy, leathery, earthy. Incredible how much more hits the nose. The fragrance is incredibly well balanced, not too strong. It is simply a masterpiece, like some Gucci or Xerjoff or whatever.
I am very surprised that Straub Wertheim has discontinued this fragrance.

Oh Jonny
The bottle is nicely compact with a PVC cap at the neck; the spray is long and powerful.

At first, I smell tobacco leaf, slightly bitter and smoky, with lavender and leather joining in.

After a while, it becomes woody and spicy for me.
I suspect I can sniff out cumin, nutmeg, bay leaves, and cloves.

In the base note, the pepper strikes, accompanied by patchouli and musk.

A beautiful scent experience from long-gone days. It is cozy, warm, spicy, comfortable, and masculine.

The longevity is enormous and lasts half the day.
The sillage is thick and heavy; it lingers for quite a while where you were just 2 minutes ago.
I haven't experienced anything quite like this before.

I think it suits a man in his mid-40s
who is in business.
#Unique, captivating, mature, earthy

An Unduly Forgotten Gem
As a "newbie" when it comes to Parfumo comments, I feel it is my duty to write the first comment on the John Player Special EdT. Curiously, it seems that no one has this fragrance (anymore) on their radar, which is infinitely sad. I encountered it for the first time on my 19th birthday when I saw it prominently displayed in a perfumery in the neighboring town, and thus I assume it must have been released shortly before -- we are talking about April 21, 1988.

The opening -- the top note -- is citrus-spicy, with lemon and bergamot rushing forward like young concert-goers at a "Backstreet Boys" or "Take That" concert in the early 90s toward the stage. But at the same time, the wood that had lagged behind at the start pulls out its lasso from the quiver and catches the two, allowing them to progress together increasingly balsamic-powdery.

On their further journey, they take along a bit of mint and sage, and then let it settle for a moment. Not much happens in the middle part of the heart note (anymore), the fragrance remains at a qualitatively high and good level until the end, staying beautifully straightforward without major surprises, always on the spice-wood-lemon path.

Only at the end does a bit of verbena and lavender, perhaps also a hint of rose, step in and help the now somewhat tired ingredients along as they head into the sunset. Tomorrow is another day...

The company Straub from Wertheim still produces fragrances under the JPS brand license today, but none of these come even close to this hit from the 80s. To anyone who can still snag it today with a bit of luck, I congratulate you and wholeheartedly wish you the JPS. The bottle, in all its Bauhaus sobriety, gets a full 10 points, as it simply fits this both noble and straightforward fragrance perfectly!

I still smoked "Chesterfield" at that time. ;-)

The who's who of kitchen herbs, nestled on dense 80s moss mat.
Wow...! Intense and good.

Interestingly, this scent has little to do with tobacco and more with lavender and leather. A classy cigarette for non-smokers.

A glorious one from the Rat Pack of fragrances. Back then, I roamed the streets with Hugo and Jil. I was proud to join sometimes... Still great today!
