In the past, I always settled for a bottle of Issey Miyake L`Eau in the height of summer, but at some point, I felt like everyone was wearing that scent.
It really took a long time for me to find a suitable summer-compatible fragrance.
A nice lady at Douglas took me under her wing, and when I was almost ready to give up, I said to her... Don't you have something off the beaten path, a scent that I won't immediately recognize around the next corner?
I sprayed Varvatos, waited a few minutes... Bammm, that's exactly what I was looking for.
Everyone knows the feeling, you search for a new fragrance only to come home with a compromise perfume, only to realize after months that the scent is rubbish!
Here, everything is different; I wandered around the city for hours with a smile, constantly sniffing my wrist included.
I met a dear friend at a café, and she got to sniff it too... Her response, wow, that smells really good! (her top fragrance on a man, Hermes Terre Homme... I can't stand that one)
For me, the summer hit!
Azure blue sky, a light breeze coming from the sea onto the wooden terrace, and from the garden, I can still perceive lavender and sage.
Longing for the sea, that's the perfect fragrance for it!
Not loud but chill.
Not sweet but aquatic.
Not mainstream but rather niche.
Not trivial but unique.

This summer, I tested several summer citrus aquatics, including a few niche ones: Acqua di Gio, Mandarino di Amalfi, Neroli Portofino, 360 Red, Shelter Island - I thought they were good, but none of them really stood out to me. Interestingly, I find most of the characteristics of those scents in my Artisan Blu as well - I think "under the radar" is a very fitting description!
