Which bathroom? Where is the cherry?

Mmmh, now that's a surprise!

And another reminder not to always rely on the "Similar" suggestions. "Le Bain" by Joop I had already virtually written off when I saw at the time that it was supposed to be similar to "Vanilla" by Bettina Barty. The latter is one of the scratchiest fragrances for me, which somehow only represents Christmas gift boxes with equally scratchy gold wire and little angel figurines, and made me immediately regret spraying it on myself so optimistically at the time.

Today, I stood again in front of the same drugstore's modest selection and, in the midst of joyfully testing the colorful Cheapies, discovered Joop Le Bain. On the test strip, I smelled a vague spicy sweetness, which made me doubt if a few of the scents before hadn't mixed on my mask by now. I decided to spray it on myself and left the store again.

In the fresh air, I smelled again and my fears dissolved right into thin air. I was greeted by a spicy orange blossom vanilla with hints of aldehyde. I'm very wary of vintage scents, but this one kind of picked me up. Over the course of the next few hours, I kept sticking my nose to the back of my hand. After the opening, a pleasant tartness came in. The vanilla got a sip of cherry brandy, and somewhere in the background, marzipan beckoned. A dark winter-sweet gourmand, definitely!

In the notes here I look in vain for the cherry and almonds, yet I could swear I smell them. In fact, after an hour, I came up with a very strong association with Rouge Smoking by BDK. And even in direct comparison, I find it similar.
Le Bain has the more present vanilla and a more elegant, mature attitude, while Rouge Smoking, in direct comparison, has more focus on the sweet amaretto cherry and seems a bit more carefree, almost frivolous. But to me, they're still kind of related - is it just me?

Be that as it may, Le Bain makes you want more ... or rather desire for "more often, but in moderation". This fragrance is so dense that it can probably be quickly overdosed. Nonetheless, absolutely wearable and definitely a dream if dosed correctly and in cold temperatures. I would rate the longevity as medium. After six hours I can still smell it, but it's already saying goodbye. I can only guess how intense he may once have been.

Usually I review fragrances only after extensive testing, so see this review perhaps less as a detailed final fragrance conclusion, but more as an inspiration to give some unimpressive fragrance yet a chance. :)
Definitely going to test this one out again in the winter. I'm already looking forward to it!
