I have had Calamity J. in my collection for about 5 years. During this time, I have not been able to decide whether it should stay or if I should let it go.
I do like the spicy opening with cinnamon sweetness and also the synthetic animalic quality of the fragrance. There is definitely a recognizable character, and I don't know many similar scents (at least not yet).
What does not convince me and has kept me wavering over the years is the performance. Both the longevity and the projection. I ordered the fragrance blind after reading the numerous comments here. I expected it to be wilder and stronger. However, after the opening, it quickly becomes subdued, indeed oriental, but for such a scent, it is quite quiet.
Unfortunately, I have not found an alternative to date that goes in the same direction but brings more power. That is why I have never been able to bring myself to part with it. If it were stronger, it would be a warming winter favorite. The smoky sweet base fits well in the cold.
A bit desperately, I now stand before the next decision. That would be whether
I will repurchase Calamity J or let it go. The upper question has become irrelevant. Unfortunately, my younger daughter (3) just got her hands on it and smashed it on the floor...

I can totally relate to that :-) I had a sample of the fragrance years ago and still don't know if I should get it in full size. The opening is great and unique, but there's something that gets annoying over time. I couldn't wear it daily, only when I felt like it... and yet I still sometimes think about buying it...
