Madame Rochas undercover
Hinotori by Kanebo is a classic representative of the aldehydic-floral fragrance family. It is subtle and not particularly striking, Japanese in its restraint yet still sophisticated and elegant.
It reminds me a lot of Madame Rochas, but Hinotori has a fruitier top note and a hint of lily in the heart, which is not present in Mme. Rochas and gives Hinotori a more exotic touch.
The H+R Fragrance Atlas from 1983 describes Hinotori as follows:
Top note: Aldehyde complex, bergamot, strawberry, peach
Heart note: Rose, jasmine, lily of the valley, ylang-ylang, iris, lily
Base note: Vetiver, ambrein, sandalwood, tonka, musk, vanilla
The fragrance would still be wearable today and would find its admirers; unfortunately, Japanese fragrances have had a hard time in Europe. Apart from Shiseido, you can no longer find scents from any Japanese manufacturers in our regions.
Kanebo now also offers only a few fragrances in Japan. Very regrettable, I think... :-(
