After the twisted nose that a tiny tester of "Rouge No. 2" by Micallef had given me, I first needed a recovery to clear my nose. In my search for delicious berry scents, I came across this one, and it is a revelation!
As other users have described before me, this fragrance is very subtle, fine, elegant.
Not a cloyingly sweet fruit candy that sticks to the corners of your mouth and comes on too strong.
No artificiality like in cheap fruit yogurt.
No, this scent has a finely tart berry quality that is hard to find. Greenish gooseberries, not quite ripe yet, a few scattered wild strawberries, the tiny ones with the insane lipstick aroma, currants, raspberries,... they are all there! But the unsweetened forest variety, smaller, finer, with more real aroma. No breeding for bombast and show - hidden under shady foliage...
The whole transparent shimmering summer, jewel-like, red-glowing little fruits nestled in dark leaves, sprayed with fresh water.
In the 60s, there was this peculiar stuff here and there in the summer that, despite its artificiality, somehow tasted and smelled real: cold soup with sago.
Mixed with water, it created a thick soup, lightly pink in color, with transparent sago (frog eggs) grains in it. From the fridge, quickly spooned, it was THE refreshment of my childhood days.
Raspberry had such a special aroma, a scent - that I find again in this cocktail here.
Wild Berries has this gently cooling, berry effect on me. Juicy. Close to the skin. Addictive.
Whatever "crystal" musk may be (and ONLY the musk creature knows that...), what remains awakens a desire for more, for new, for another spray.
God, cold soup...! It's been more than forty years since I last not only saw but also ate a cold soup - and now you effortlessly bring it back to my mind. And yes, the Mecheris are lovely, not just the wild little berries...!
