... i used to Love to party in the old days
Heartbeat, i used to have one of them too
With these lines, my current favorite song by the Irish singer CMAT, a duet with the singer John Grant, begins.
Now, what does this have to do with the fragrance Eau D'Iparie by L'Occitane? For me, both evoke a similar mood within me. In this case, it’s a certain melancholy.
In contrast to Eau D'Iparie, which I find appealing, the song "Where are your Kids tonight" doesn't quite resonate with me. The song has country elements, which I don't particularly like, but the melody and the lyrics immediately captivated me, just like the fragrance did.
Eau D'Iparie is from a time when L'Occitane still had great fragrances in their lineup, in my opinion. Unfortunately, the brand has also succumbed to the randomness of the mass market, and I have completely lost interest in the brand.
Eau D'Iparie was and is not a fragrance for the masses, as it possesses a certain degree of uniqueness.
The scent starts bright and spicy floral green. Neither pepper nor peonies make sense to me here.
Over time, it becomes more rosy, but somehow cool and serious. At the same time, a wonderful accord of incense and patchouli picks up considerable momentum for my nose.
In this stage, the fragrance remains for a long time before it becomes a bit earthier and softer in the dry down.
The longevity corresponds to that of a catchy tune, as once applied, it accompanies me for an entire day.
The sillage depends on the dosage. However, for my taste, a restrained dose is advantageous here.
I prefer to wear Eau D'Iparie in the autumn. Even if that sounds cliché, the melancholy of the fragrance fits my mood best during that time.
Unfortunately, the series was discontinued some time ago.
And now I will indulge in the great song by CMAT once again.
"Licking my Lips and doing crimes....
Addendum: As I have learned, the series has apparently been reintroduced by L'Occitane. The fragrance is now available in 50 ml instead of 100 ml.
Pleasant, I think.
I've also lost interest in L'Occitane, but you’ve got me curious here! ...... And John Grant is ALWAYS a win!!!! ..... (Although I’m not a big fan of the duet with CMAT!)
Melancholy fits perfectly in autumn, that's not a cliché. The scent should be great too, it sounds good despite the rose. But I find the video from CMAT the funniest, it really takes you back to the '80s! ;-)
Oh, interesting to draw that parallel. In music (and other arts), I really like the melancholic, but not so much in fragrances. I've never really thought about why perfumes are an exception. I need to think about it. Enjoyed reading this.
A great scent, and you described it perfectly, especially the gentle patchouli combined with the incense rose-it's just wonderful. I put it on right away.
I’m not familiar with the music presented or the perfume! However, your skilled introduction to Eau d'Iparie makes me suspect that I would also enjoy this scent!
I also feel a bit melancholic when I think back to the old L'Occitanes. Like many other brands, they wanted to be unique but have now gotten lost in "pleasant" scents 😕.
This is one of those scents that I can't quite figure out.
It has something, but I rarely wear it because it's almost too polarizing for me.
But it brings back vacation memories - bought in a pharmacy in the Black Forest, which (like so many) has since closed down.
Finally, another review from you! 🥳
I really liked the brand in the early 2000s.
The classics with lemon verbena are still great.
But lately, nothing good has come out.
Your fragrance sounds like a distinctive rose-patchouli.
Very nice!
That sounds great! I also liked the uniqueness of the earlier L'Occitanes, and I think I would enjoy this scent too.
I don't know the song or the artist, but thank you so much for the tip! I'm always open to expanding my musical horizons.
I was actually looking for John Grant on YouTube and then stumbled upon the duet. Once I heard the song, I couldn't get it out of my head, just like the scent.
And I probably would have liked the scent with its melancholic touch!
It has something, but I rarely wear it because it's almost too polarizing for me.
