"E viva la Sicilia, lala lala lala..."
If you spend your holidays down in the South of Italy you may find one or the other scented Eau with the name “Zagara” in the local souvenir shops. Zagara is orange blossom – and these are nothing else but classic Eau de Colognes or Kölnisch Wasser - maybe with a stronger orange touch. Just like for Kölnisch Wasser, there is no trade mark protection, and thus, Zagaras come from different manufacturers.

Thanks to a friendly Parfumo user I can now test this summer souvenir – and it matches my taste. La Barbera Profumi from the Palermo region seems to be one of those local suppliers – their musical and ethnic web presentation puts a smile on every face, just as their Zagara di Sicilia!

Zagara di Sicilia starts with – guess what – lots of neroli and maybe not quite as much bergamot. It is still on the fresh side and only close to opulence. Whereas our northern Eau de Colognes would go against this with herbaceous notes and light musk, Zagara di Sicilia even emphasised the flowery side.

When towards the heart notes the orange blossom steps a little aside, a whole garden stuffed with jasmine opens before us – maybe with one or the other tuberose in it as well. Mamma mia, what are they inclined to do to us? Here, a very special taste has expressed itself – on the manufacturer's web presentation, I read the word “jasmine extasy”!

Naturally, the base note of this Eau de Cologne is reached quickly – and it is a bit on the oriental side as I can detect some patchouli.

Here, we have the not so common case of a floriental perfume that never comes as bone-crushing or candy-like. Notes that are opulent or even bombastic elsewhere present themselves fresh and easy-going. What a good idea!

And due to its airiness and light-heartedness, I'd say this flowery Eau can just as well be worn by men.

Unfortunately, no prices are given since the brand website doesn't have a shop. What a pity! Zagara di Sicilia makes me courious about how they interpret the other classic topics of Italian perfumery.
