Simple appearance for a great interplay
I have now been working for almost 2 years in a small town, in the midst of the Mecklenburg Switzerland. Every morning on my way to work, the backdrop of this tranquil gem emerges so reassuringly on the horizon. For me, this town, shaped by other experiences here, has become the epitome of what people mean when they say "Here, time has stood still." In this small province, one is quickly captured by its own nostalgic charm. The DDR kids among us perfume lovers might know this feeling when you often come across old DDR traces in such small rural towns. Memories simply awaken. Here, in a small lovingly run drugstore, there are actually still pictures and small sales posters of DDR fragrances like Action Spray or the good old Patras and Wild River, or even the sal ammoniac pastilles, which you could get back then for 30 pfennigs if you were lucky :-) oh yes, not everything was bad;-)
And it was exactly to this drugstore that I found myself several times, but not to the back corner where hair care products are stacked in masses. Why I ended up there, I do not know; it must have been some kind of perfume attraction, because there, really on the bottom shelf, tightly packed together, they stood: The fragrances from Accord Parfait. 2 testers in dark brown apothecary bottles, 100ml, very simple. I believe when I took them out and placed them on a small counter, they saw daylight for the first time in years :-) which can only have done the fragrances good.
I was able to test http://www.parfumo.de/Parfums/Accord_Parfait/Oriental_Patchouli__Musc_Blanc as well as http://www.parfumo.de/Parfums/Accord_Parfait/Chypre_The_Noir__Bergamote
The concept of these fragrances is truly based on transparency. What is written on the bottle is implemented almost uncompromisingly. The fragrances consist solely of the two specified fragrance components. I was astonished, looking incredulously at the bottle and the packaging but finding nothing else. So simple, so genius, I can only say. Initially, the olfactory senses are a bit confused, as they are used to complex fragrance pyramids and are set for that. But this simplicity wins over minute by minute and felt like balm to the otherwise so stressed nose. Both fragrances landed on my hands, one on the right, one on the left, and so I set off for the time being. What happened next can be described like this.
The Patchouli Musc Blanc starts off herbaceous - fresh, then becomes a bit softer. And that’s it. Nothing more. The musk can never fully assert itself; the patchouli dominates, sometimes more, sometimes less. It is fascinating, this skillful interplay of patchouli - musk; musk - patchouli, always a back and forth, just as if the fragrance is careful to never stay too long in just one direction. So at the right moment, herbaceous fresh, then after a while, a bit softer and gentler. And it was so pleasant to sniff throughout the day. So for such a simple fragrance, the sillage is quite excellent and reliable for a whole day, even with just a hesitant dosage from the test sprayer on the hand. Despite the oriental premise, which I cannot quite grasp, it fits for warm days, suitable for the office, leisure, and also for the evening.
Around 10 o'clock I tested, and at 5:55 PM I found myself back in this drugstore and bought the two fragrances, because the same interplay in the fragrance progression could also be sniffed in the Noir Bergamotte, green/fresh - herbaceous.
By the way, the drugstore owner, an older lady in her mid-60s ;-) was overjoyed, as she had never experienced someone, especially a man, buying two fragrances in her almost 40-year career as a drugstore owner... I hope the tranquility returns to the drugstore quickly.
