Blauäugig an ein Dupe geraten...
In search of a fragrance for the pre-Christmas season that combines spicy notes with orange or mandarin and a warm base, I stumbled upon this unknown, inexpensive scent on the bay and ordered it blindly. The bottle design should have raised some red flags for me... but no, I didn't expect to receive a dupe of "Opium." It's not necessarily a bad thing - I actually like "Opium!"
However, even though the pyramid is almost identical, I do notice differences compared to my Opium Vintage. DZ starts with a stronger mandarin note but also has a "hairspray note" that I find less appealing. Overall, DZ feels a bit artificial and fades quite quickly. In contrast, my Opium has that "vintage note" that suggests a certain age, but for me, that's simply part of the charm of such old treasures. It feels much more elegant and balanced to me.
My conclusion: From my perspective, DZ is not a particularly well-executed dupe, at least regarding the old Opium version. I am not familiar with the new one.
