When A Stranger Knocks On The Door
Who is L.D.B, initially known as Loft Design By…? I found some pictures of a historic shop in Montmatre-Paris in Rue Yvonne Le Tac, but I don't know if it still exists. And concerning this perfume, some scarce bottles and miniatures are for sale online on some used items sites. I remember it was on super offer on Douglas perfumeries, the 50ml, and 100ml at the same price. Now it is vintage with an overrated price. No matter how many times I have searched on the web for the perfume, there is no review, idea, or even the slightest note mentioned. On the box, among the ingredients, only alcohol, fragrance, and water are listed, but no other elements from which it can be traced back to the known. Therefore, you will read the result of my sense of smell and the notes I think I recognize in the concoction.

L.D.B belongs to the flowery and powdery genus. According to my knowledge, it reveals itself with soapy, powdery accords, slightly acidified by citrus peels, mainly bergamot. When I bought it a few years ago, its aroma and the evocative power of the essence immediately won me over, bringing back to mind a childhood memory, that of Spuma di Sciampagna talcum powder, with its fresh smell, clean, mixed with something indescribable. The citrus notes dissolve quickly, leaving space for floral, dry, and powdery notes.

In the L.D.B heart, a bouquet of dry wildflowers comes towards me; they are not the classic white flowers such as jasmine, gardenia, or similar. On the throne sits a buttery, dusty Florentine iris, which looks a lot like talcum powder without that shade of makeup or lipstick that we encounter, for example, in the first Dior Homme (2005). To support this royal flower, there are at least two equally noble flowers, such as rose and lavender. The first is dressed in white, a candid, pure rose with velvety stiff petals, reserved and not at all brazen. It is not the damask or irreverent rose of Middle Eastern perfumes. Conversely, lavender wears herbaceous clothes, with those scents closer to straw, typical of the plant's stems, leaves, and dried flowers. To help you understand better, think of Pour Un Homme de Caron (1934) Eau de Toilette lavender, if you know it.

Finally, in the dry-down, L.D.B turns towards semisweet notes, maintaining its powdery vein, thanks to a spicy and not very edible coumarin. It could be heliotrope or opoponax, or simply vanilla. I don't get dirty notes, but slightly amber and musky facets. Probably, amber and white musks participate in creating these sensations. A creamy blond wood note might be present, making me think of sandalwood. In the background, that feeling of talcum powder remains between the first notes and remains until the end.

Its delicacy, light freshness, and dustiness make it ideal for spring, summer, and early autumn days. Femmine? Not at all. It has an intimate, modest trail that lasts several hours on my skin. It is a pity that it is discontinued; so unique and rare. It doesn't smell like any of the over 1500 perfumes in my collection. The only similarity I recognized is that of Spuma di Sciampagna talcum powder.

I'm basing my feelings on a bottle I've owned for at least ten years.
