Spicebomb anybody?
Yes please. I've seen this compared to Creed's Spice and Wood and HiM by Hanae Mori, but I don't get that at all. Right from the first spray, it's very obviously a Spicebomb clone. In fact, the scents are so similar that I highly doubt anyone would be able to tell them apart from the sillage. Up close however, it's a different story.
The opening starts off with that characteristic Spicebomb mix of peppers, tobacco, and sweetness (from the amber) but in this one, you're going to get a strong synthetic grapefruit. It gives the composition a slightly sour quality throughout that isn't displeasing, but I could probably do without it constantly lingering in the background. There's no cinnamon, saffron, leather or vetiver either; but despite all of that, the two are virtually identical in the air. Go figure.
The scent itself is rather linear once the blend settles down 10 minutes in, and all you get is that dry, sweet, spicy goodness that almost reminds me of a flavour of candy I had sometime in the past. The performance is what you can expect from a budget clone - average - but I find that it works best on clothing. Although, I would avoid spraying anything on the front of your body, as just like with any uber-spicy frag, it can give you a headache real quick.
Luckily though, spicy notes tend to cut through the dense, cold air rather well, so this is a winner for the colder months, especially if you find yourself outdoors. However, keep in mind that the frag itself is not as appealing when sniffed up close, so I would probably choose something a little better blended and less spicy/tangy for a romantic close encounter. Otherwise, it's exactly what I wanted - an inexpensive compliment getter and a great replacement for the now reformulated Spicebomb. Smell you later.
