The Ü30 Fragrance (Over 30°C)
When I first tested Corallo, I must admit, I was very surprised. Its bitter-sour-herbaceous top note was quite an acquired taste. This initial note is probably not what one expects from a perfume. If you look at the individual fragrance components of the top note in the description above, they do remind you quite a bit of a small mixed salad from the Italian place around the corner. This first test took place at the end of December last year. The second test was around mid-April, and the last one was yesterday. My impression: The fragrance becomes rounder and more accessible as it gets warmer.
Without referring too much to the aforementioned components, the scent progression currently presents itself like this.
At first, I smell a somewhat "metallic" sour-bitter note. There’s something reminiscent of freshly cut ginger. There’s also a sour grassy note, like a day-old mowed grass drying in the sun. The floral phase that follows has a somewhat "swimming pool-like," slightly iodine-like quality (but only very subtly). There’s also a light, fresh cucumber-yuzu note.
I have the impression that Corallo interacts very well with my skin/skin sweat at higher temperatures. The sour impression is softened, making the fragrance profile rounder. I felt refreshed, clean, and somehow..... vacation-relaxed the entire time. The fact that I smell "distinctly different" from everyone else was something I could easily accept. Admittedly, we are already quite far outside the usual aroma world with Corallo. But "different" can also be more interesting than just "copies."
Despite all my initial skepticism, I can now well imagine wearing this fragrance in summer. At higher temperatures, I don’t see it exclusively as a women's fragrance.
Perhaps Corallo is more Mediterranean and authentic in its essence than many other, more well-known fragrances.
