Fresh Woody and Spicy
Oud Assam by Abdul Karim Al Faransi

Notes: Indian Spices, Mint, Sandalwood, Agarwood Oil from Assam and Wet Wood

This is blended very well, starts of with spices and mint but somehow this reminds me of Jubilation by Amouage, it's not harsh or animalic at all. Lovely and Gorgeous. In the drydown Sandalwood is more prominent to my nose, i also get hints of Patchouli which gives it that sweet, musky and earthy scent.

Overall a very lovely scent, with great sillage and amazing performance.

When you wish for a more stable Oud
One of the initial reasons for placing a sample order with MAM was the scent Oud Assam. Indian oud, mint, sandalwood, and patchouli - 4 fragrance notes that I really enjoy. However, I would like to explain why other scents from the house have excited me more.

Oud Assam plays with impressions from the Indian region, specifically, the eastern Indian province of Assam serves as inspiration. The subtropical region bordering Myanmar is known for producing intensely animalic and stable oud distillates. Combined with a few selected Indian spices, sandalwood, mint, and patchouli, this promises to be quite an intriguing scent, if it weren't for a few weaknesses. The first concerns the oud itself. Indian oud can indeed smell very animalic, almost fecal, but unfortunately, it does not do so here. Some may highlight this as a positive point, as it significantly increases wearability. In my opinion, there could be a decent portion of animalic notes, especially when playing with the theme of Indian oud. The second point involves the listed Indian spices. Normally, I am a big fan of thoroughly spicy scents; however, here the spice blend drifts too much into the uncoordinated, resulting in a strong curry or Maggi note. This impression unfortunately overshadows all the nuances of the entire top note until the spices gradually recede and reintegrate into the overall composition. The third weakness is clearly the performance. Within an hour, it is only close to the skin, and after two more hours, it is almost gone. And that is truly a shame, because although the spice note initially seems somewhat disturbing and the oud (in my opinion) could be a bit more stable, the very natural mint, earthy patchouli, and creamy sandalwood create a pleasantly fresh-woody scent with oriental and earthy nuances. It just doesn't last long.

Despite these points, Oud Assam is not a bad scent; there are simply significantly better implementations from this house to try.

A strong natural earthy/woody scent. Really reminds me of atlas cedarwood oil, even though it’s not in the notes

A somewhat subtle scent that thrives on the dark green interplay of patchouli and tough oud. It has absorbed the spicy notes. Okay.

Fantastic: Initially animalistic minty, then fruity spice with honey, and finally earthy-moist.

Patchouli and mint feel like fresh vetiver on wood here,
becoming woodier and honey-sweet over time. Beautiful, but sillage is very weak.

A somewhat unbalanced oud attar. Misaligned spices, faint oud, and weak performance. In my opinion, there are better ones from MAM.

At first, I would have thought of patchouli. Light green freshness, sandalwood, with honey-sweetened black tea. Not quite well balanced.

Beautiful patchouli and a gentle oud note, with mint adding a subtle freshness... the drydown is very pleasant.

Fresh-spicy, subtly smoky-floral, lightly sweet wood -
Top-heart class 9.0 - unfortunately, the bright base is weaker.
