BBQ in Cambodia
too much MSG on the meat?
Doesn't matter.
The jungle rain
will wash it away*

Somehow, the BBQ note intrigues me.

For the price, it's definitely a nice experience, but I don't think it would hold my interest long-term.

Interesting, the Dehn al Oud's probably play with such accords too. It's nice, but nowadays I would lean more towards the real deal.

I find BBQ quite interesting, especially since I liked the Tyranno. I need to test it!

It's just the beginning, but it's really inappropriate.

Reminds me a bit of Seven Oud.
I prefer dry woods.

That doesn't sound very Imperial to me, especially not without a cuddle :)

I also find the name inappropriate. It's supposed to mimic Indian oud, but it hasn't succeeded.

The BBQ spice isn't really necessary, but it doesn't sound bad. Just what is MSG?

Monosodium glutamate. These are those extremely salty flavor enhancers that are often used in things like Chinese noodle soups or in many spice blends.

Yes, the Maisons are affordable Orientals that give a tiny glimpse into the real artisan world, maybe about 10%, I would say.

*Interesting attempt to recreate the scent of natural ouds. It starts off quite oddly with pure BBQ spice, not even smoky, just sharp-salty-spicy. That fades after a few minutes, and the smoke starts to spread a bit and smolders. In the drydown, the scent comes relatively close to a classic Cambodi, even if that probably wasn't the goal here. Olfactorily, you would never think of India, even though the scent wants to sell us a Hindi oud. For the price, you know beforehand that you’re getting little or no real oud (3g attar for €40), but they have managed to recreate the scent reasonably well, completely without any inappropriate animal notes or other nonsense. Personally, and this is where you notice what it is, it just lacks body in the drydown; real oud would be much fuller, much deeper, more expressive. Still well done, and for those who like the scent, you can't go wrong here.
