724 Maison Francis Kurkdjian 2022 Eau de Parfum
First Fresh, Then Musk
I've been circling around the MFK fragrances for a long time; you encounter them everywhere in niche fragrance corners of the internet, and I found 724 particularly interesting - I can't deal with overly sweet and heavy scents at all, and this sounded promising. After a bit of research, I decided to buy the Mini Wardrobe For Her - conveniently, the much-discussed BRC 540 was included, and even though I already suspected it wouldn't be for me, I wanted to give it a sniff (Spoiler: Right, it really doesn’t suit me at all!).
Anyway, 724: Upon the first cautious spray, the fragrance delivered what it promised: a lot of freshness, a lot of lily of the valley, overall a "dew-fresh flower meadow" type, and, at least to my nose, very very similar to "Lily of the Valley" by Floris. I was quite delighted that the musk seemed to hold back in the background (it quickly turns into a kind of animalic scent on me, which I really dislike) and I walked around for half a day with the scent on my wrist. Overall, not much changed - what I smelled remained fresh-green-light, with the lily of the valley and bergamot still being dominant (surprisingly, the bergamot held on for so long!).
So, then I got bolder and thought I’d see what happens when there’s more than one spray involved. I sprayed the fragrance on just today, and in no time at all, something happened that unfortunately often occurs with musk-containing scents on me: all the freshness from the opening fades, and I smell sharp and musty. Underneath, there is a certain creaminess, yes, and the initial freshness can still be sensed, but unfortunately, the musk takes center stage for me - somehow, it just doesn’t work with my skin chemistry. Now I have to see how I can scrub this off well and what I can layer over it - maybe the light lily of the valley from "Lily of the Valley," as I know they stay light and fresh. Such a pity, but at the same time, of course: Phew, thank goodness, saved some money! ;-)
