My first review is about my first love

I've always had a good selection of designer fragrances, but I remember exactly how I got into niche fragrances..

One of my closest friends, a salesman by trade, proudly showed me his ever-growing collection of fragrances and if there's one thing this guy knows how to do, it's sell. I was completely taken by how much niche can stand out from the fragrances that are so familiar to the nose and I knew... this topic has potential. A year later, I know this rabbit hole has no outlet at all...

Shortly afterwards, I was on vacation with my partner on Lake Como and since Italians are known to be distinguished personalities, I was sure there would be a nice niche store here. And so it was, and a few days later I set foot in a store full of fragrances whose names I had never heard before. I asked the man from Format about oud fragrances, as I had hardly ever smelled them before. 5 test strips later, I had found two favorites. One was Papyrus Oud/71 and the other was the beautiful Oud Extrait de Parfum

I was enthusiastic about both, but when I sniffed Oud Extrait de Parfum, childhood memories and the comparison to an undefined candy popped into my head. I couldn't yet explain why. We'll get to that later.

So I asked the price of the two fragrances and when I heard what you have to pay for the Oud Extrait de Parfum, I thought "Who does that?"

So my first purchase was Papyrus Oud/71, which I didn't want to do without. I thanked him and when I left the store I took the test strip of Oud Extrait de Parfum with me.

Over the coming weeks and months, I smelled this test strip regularly and was absolutely impressed by two things.

Firstly, the sheer longevity of the fragrance. Unbelievable. The strip still smelled of the fragrance six months later.

Secondly: the fragrance. Insane. And those childhood memories kept coming back into my head. This undefined sweetness. But where does it come from?
Months later, the lovely forum here was able to answer this question for me. In reviews, the comparison to glucose or dextrose comes up again and again, and hell yes! That's what it is! But in such an elegant, mysterious and grown-up way. Unbelievable.

Of course, the other ingredients are not neglected either. The saffron opening is strong and the vanilla, which becomes increasingly creamy as it progresses, is simply a dream. But this elegant dextrose. Crazy. The madness. I have to have it.

And that's how it happened. Just under a year later, I found an offer in the souk where everything was just right and I've been able to enjoy my own bottle ever since.

The longevity on the skin is indeed finite, between 8-12 hours for me, but until then you have a lot of fun. Throughout the day, the fragrance flashes up again and again, has a dreamy vanilla between hours 3-6 and the dextrose also says hello every now and then until the end. Oud, on the other hand, less so.

At the moment, I can't imagine that this fragrance won't be part of my collection one day.
