Beaming, Intense Ylang-Peach and Rubbery Oud
Micallef Night Aoud opens with medicinal, rubbery oud, and intense, extremely concentrated fruity ylang and peach. The execution of the latter reminds me of the similar narcotic ylang-jasmine opening of Guerlain Samsara extrait and Areej Le Doré Flux de Fleur for example, but in Night Aoud, these undiluted fruity floral sweetness is further paired with the rubbery oud, resulting in a saccharine, synthetic feeling to my perception.

As the intensity of the fragrance gradually diminishes when heading into the dry down, the overwhelming sensation of synthetic sweetness becomes more manageable with time. The oud takes on a fuzzy warmth akin to saffron and its funky woodiness is relegated to the background. The main branch on which the bright sweetness of ylang and peach cling, is now a high-pitched, slightly camphorous patchouli. Although it’s still not enough to temper the sweetness, at least it doesn’t automatically conjures the artificial impression as the combination of oud’s rubberiness and fruity floral sweetness does for me.

Night Aoud becomes more and more enveloping towards the end, thanks to the steady, cocooning warmth of sandalwood, although the sharp fruity sweetness of ylang and peach never truly leaves. The sillage is moderate to soft, and the longevity is around 9 hours.

Curiously, Night Aoud doesn’t feel that dark to me, as its name might suggest. The beaming sweetness of ylang and peach actually makes it feel quite bright and cheerful. The contrast between rubbery oud and hedonistic fruity floral is also an interesting idea, although in practice, the overall effect translates being too synthetic and saccharine for my taste. If you can handle intensely fruity sweetness and are looking for a joyful rendition of oud, Night Aoud might worth a try.

Wonderful Spiritual Smell;
One of the most beautiful Aouds I know. Because of the fruitiness, this aoud is not so dark and serious. It is an oriental fragrance with fruit (peach) but also beautiful woody tones. The drydown is great. You imagine yourself in an oriental fairy tale and it really touches you in your soul. The bottle is also beautiful. M. Micallef makes beautiful Aoud fragrances. I am really in love with this smell.

Night?
“Night Aoud” is astonishing. Quite positively so... but still surprising. There is no dark night to be smelled. Nothing dark and ominous, nor any glamour nightlife factor with disco lights and an exciting allure of going out. It is seductive; there is quite a bit of eroticism in the scent - but “Night Aoud” does not become particularly nocturnal because of that.
And not only does the name not quite fit the actual scent... the pyramid also raises eyebrows.
One would think “dark-sweet, heavy, substantial” when reading the notes. However, I didn’t read them when I got to know Night Aoud. At first, I guessed flowers. Quite a few, actually, a whole bouquet of mixed flowers with a hint of fruit accent. The colorful blooms (so, distinctly mixed) play the most prominent role in the floral part. Ylang Ylang smells beautifully sunny upfront... and a bit of rose can also be discerned. Plus initial citrus (here also more floral). Nutmeg gives a tiny hint of a mattifying kick, without being particularly spicy. And then, amidst all the flowers, of course, there is Oud: the typical Micallef Oud with honey.
For two years, I have loved and owned Aoud Gourmet and therefore know the Micallef Oud note quite well. Very soft, sweet, not medicinal, hardly woody, broad, very “round” in effect, inseparable from its honey partner, which caresses the Oud with its golden, thick, sweet texture and takes away all harshness. This Oud+Honey accord is also used in Night Aoud, but it is somewhat more restrained in its honey-like quality, not quite as warm, less massive, and leaves significantly more space beside it... for the flowers, of course.
With the heart, the whole thing does indeed become darker... but at most early evening, not late night. Patchouli can be smelled (also not the darkest type I know) and later a warm, vanilla Oud base (also not as heavy as one might expect).
“Night Aoud” brings me joy, contrary to its name, in the morning, at noon, and in the afternoon, best with plenty of sunshine. It actually pairs remarkably well with sweat and lack of shade, blooming beautifully in brightness and warmth. However, I wouldn’t want to rename it “Morning Aoud” or “Noon Aoud,” because in the evening, the late heart and then the base note also come through very nicely, as the day slowly calms down and one wants to linger in the soft, intense, and velvety Oud. Just not “Night.”

A very pleasant, friendly Oud, one that does not pose the ultimate scent challenge and yet dominates the fragrance from start to finish with Oud, drastically imprinting its stamp on the wearer. At the same time, it is characteristic, distinct, very pronounced in its Oud-ness. It comes with freshness, with flowers, with an appealing accompaniment, and then becomes a bit warmer and explicitly sexy, though not in the form of a monumental erotic drama, more like a tempting gentle bite on the lower lip.

A beautiful, not particularly nocturnal radiant Oud that scented my summer vacation and will bring warm golden shimmer well into the late year.

A Unique Style
Night Aoud is a truly magnificent perfume. It is not the Montale Oud style that we encounter here, but the genuine Micallef style. Night Aoud, Aoud Man, and more recently Aoud Gourmet shape this style, which is primarily characterized by a warm, sweet honey note.

I am not a fan of honey notes, especially when they are very waxy. But that is not the case here at all. It is clear, sweet, golden honey; perhaps maple syrup is a better comparison. In contrast to the sophisticated, often dark rose-oud combinations from Montale, which remind me more of nocturnal scenes, the Micallef oud style has something that represents warm evening sun and magnificent sunsets. However, with Arabian Diamond, Micallef has also tried to copy the Montale style. And the new Emir from the Micallef men's fragrance brand G.Nejman seems to be taking a different path. The women's fragrance Rose Aoud is still unknown to me.

Don't let the keywords "honey" or "sweet" deter you from trying at least one of these fragrances; they are all great and each has enough contrast to the honey or maple syrup.

In all three cases, this is provided by differently pronounced wood notes, which, in combination with the oud and the honey, create a truly remarkable experience.

Night Aoud seems to me to be the perfume of this trio with the most sweetness. It feels like a more intense Aoud Man. It certainly shares some marzipan with Aoud Gourmet, although the deep black cashmere wood note used there is missing. In the top note of Night Aoud, there is a powdery component that, while not lasting long, does add some depth to the overall scent. Whether floral or fruity notes were used, I cannot say. Probably yes; but nothing is distinctly recognizable. Those who are averse to this perfume might find it somewhat reminiscent of lacquer.

Night Aoud and Aoud Gourmet are likely intended as unisex fragrances, while Aoud Man - as the name suggests - is a men's fragrance. I wouldn't see the classification as too strict; all three fragrances are quite close to each other. With Night Aoud, I feel a minimal reminder of a tarry note from Gaultier's Le Male corner in the drydown. I would say Fleur du Male. Due to the similar sweetness, the comparison with Body Kouros is obvious, but in style, this is something entirely different. Body Kouros is a rough block of perfume for sweaty male bodies, while Night Aoud is something very refined, and the mentioned erotic, bodily nuances are almost unrecognizable and remain cleverly concealed. On the contrary, somewhere in the heart of the fragrance, there are likely some innocent light and ethereal notes hidden. Perhaps very minimal aldehydes, but also light musk have been used.

I find the light blue to turquoise colored round 100ml glass bottle with the Swarovski stones very beautiful, although it suggests a lightness and delicacy that is not entirely present. It is an opulent, not a light fragrance, in which delicate accents can be discovered time and again. I have yet to encounter a truly light, delicate oud.

Midsummer Night Oud
Dannyboy, thanks for the sample.

I tested NA without reading the comments beforehand. Well, I expected something dark, heavy, and mystical based on the name.

With the opening of the fragrance, I thought, yes, an oud scent that will surely be quite heavy. However, the oud note is rather subdued when it comes to the medicinal touch. There is something sweet that can still be detected in the top note. If it's honey, then it's more of a strong forest honey than a sweet acacia honey.

The longer NA is on my skin, the lighter it becomes! The oud note completely disappears for me after about 2 hours, and the fragrance develops a pleasant floral-fruity sweetness. Jam or compote comes to mind as a comparison. There is a jam factory in Stade that produces unusual and extremely delicious jams. NA smells like one of those jams on my skin.

The nighttime feeling doesn't really set in for me. But a midsummer night feeling! A night when the sun doesn't set, the summer meadows and gardens are fragrant, and a soothing twilight casts a special magic over the landscape. This image fits this perfume well, in my opinion.

The longevity is excellent, but the intensity is not as lush as I initially expected. I find the development of the fragrance truly exceptional. The first scent starts heavy and then becomes lighter. I haven't experienced that before.

Softly defined, oriental Oud scent - rose and white flowers.
With delicate spices, earthy notes, and sandalwood on a sweet-amber base.

balanced oud without edges, I smell a hint of dark leather. For those who usually don't like oud, it feels a bit too masculine for me.

Reminds me of peach punch with vanilla ice cream. There's also oud, patchouli & wood. A warm summer scent with a lovely citrus-herb note.

Night Aoud was the start of my Oud love, warm, sweet, and incredibly alluring.
Fascinating perfume definitely not just for evenings.

Although it initially comes off a bit angular and "oudy," it quickly develops a finely spicy floral note with sweet fruity hints.

Radiantly bright clear oud, finely balanced underneath: creamy, floral, delicately citrusy rose, uniquely composed fresh patchouli flowers.
