Blinded by the bottle and the name, I bought this juice scent unsniffed...
I love violets. I love thick-glass bottomed bottles, and Tocca's is one of the best. It annoys me that the capacity is only 50ml and it cannot be refilled, but I love it anyway. Naturally when I learned the name of the latest entry in the Tocca eau de parfum line-up, I couldn't resist ordering a bottle.

Unfortunately, after a few wearings I've come to the conclusion that this particular composition is closer to this house's Aqua Profumata colognes than to the rest of the eaux de parfums (some of which I like quite a lot). The problem with VIOLETTE, for me, is that there is an aquatic facet which shrouds and even compromises the presentation of the violets. I'm not saying that violets have to be soloists, as in the nineteenth-century creations Berdoues VIOLETTES DE TOULOUSE or Borsari VIOLETTA DI PARMA, or their cousins Molinard VIOLETTE and Christiane Celle CALYPSO VIOLETTE, but here I feel that the violets are overwhelmed by some sort of aqualia. In fact, in wafts this reminds me of the Marc Jacobs cocktail splash series. That's the quality and longevity I'm finding here.

What's wrong with this picture? Well, for starters, VIOLETTE does not come in a 10 ounce jug, but in this gorgeous thick-bottomed bottle with a measly 50 ml capacity. This is not a bottle appropriate to a cologne-strength juice. Nor is this a bottle appropriate to a fragrance which is just okay. This bottle should be reserved for high-quality, savor drop-by-drop perfume!

Needless to say, I won't be purchasing any more of this fragrance, but I'm pretty sure that I'll never be able to throw this bottle away. It's really too bad that we've no further need for paperweights... I'll add this one to my collection of "implement of self-defense to leave within arm's reach on the bedside table in the event of an uninvited nocturnal visitor" bottles. This one really is right up there with Van Cleef & Arpels ORIENS and SJP COVET.

The Curse of the Dear Little Girl
Once upon a time, there was a little girl who was so sweet and delicate that anyone who came close enough to the fragile creature had to love her terribly. The dear girl was named Violette, and her heart was soft and friendly, her smile wrapped around the wounded souls of the harried like a warm, powdery balm. And yet: The dear girl, as much as she could delight the hearts of people with her charm, was doomed to lead a lonely life and to find no one who would take her by the hand and lead her home.

How could this be possible?!, wondered the hurried passersby who walked by her and took a hint of her violet-like charm with them on their way. They did not understand. And yet, none of them took her with them. And if it ever happened, one often saw the girl standing alone at a corner again the very next morning, abandoned by the one who had just loved her so dearly.

Now, as fairy tales teach us, there was an explanation for all the suffering that our soft little velvet treasure had to endure. For everything that is pure and lovely in the world finds its envy. It so happened that a spiteful fairy, consumed by jealousy of the fine violet, cursed our dear girl with a dreadful spell. Thus, the delicate creature was doomed to transform into a nasty old woman every new morning; a cheeky, intrusive person, with a tongue as sharp as roughly chopped ginger, wrapped in a musty old crocheted shawl around her crooked shoulders, which smelled as if it had been lying for many years in an old cedar wardrobe next to a dried potpourri of old flowers and dried berries. The old woman, with her sharp tongue and her old rags, was such an unpleasant thing that people avoided her and turned away from her. The old woman did not care; the people did not concern her, and in her grumpiness, she wanted to be alone. But deep in her heart, the dear violet girl cried, for she did not want to be lonely and simply wanted to be loved. Yet our little Violette was brave. Day by day, she stubbornly fought her way out of the sharp muff to the surface, so that after a while, the old woman disappeared, and she was again completely herself, fragrant and lovely, greeted by people with a smile.

Although she was brave, Violette sensed that there could be no happiness for her, and her heart knew she would have to live a lonely, sad life in her little glass world. But then, as is fitting for a good fairy tale, a miracle happened. If you think that a prince rode in to heroically free her from her womanly curse, you are mistaken, dear readers. For it happened quite differently: One beautiful morning, a simple young woman walked through the streets of the city. At the corner, she saw a wrinkled, old, screeching woman standing. Out of pity, she approached the old woman. With each step, a sharp, musty scent hit her nose. And although she instinctively wanted to avoid it, something drew her in. For beneath the commonness of the old woman, the young woman sensed something very fine, fragile, a deep, loving loneliness, and a hint of balm, violets, and fresh fruit. The young woman took the old woman by the arm and led her to her home. She took her in and cared for her lovingly. And over time, the smell and the sharp screeching of the old woman became less harsh and severe. And then suddenly, the old woman transformed, and the dear, delicate girl appeared before the young woman; she was so happy and grateful and hugged the girl for a long time and loved her dearly. "Oh, let it be, you will just put me back on the street anyway when I turn into the old woman again tomorrow morning," Violette whispered softly and sadly. But the young woman knelt down to her and gently whispered in her ear: "My dear, you never have to leave here again, and the old lady can stay too; we will manage with her." And when Violette smiled at her with joy and gratitude, it was as if the whole world was wrapped in a gentle, soft violet breeze.

And so the young woman, the old woman, and the dear violet girl lived happily ever after.

The End.

Blackcurrant Violet
This scent reminded me of something right from the start. Once, very faintly, of the violet one by Dita von Teese, but without its heavy notes. And then, now that I'm wearing it today, the penny dropped: there were or are? those grape sugar candies that taste like various berries, do you know them? Exactly, this perfume strongly reminds me of blackcurrant grape sugar lollipop. The powderiness is also spot on. :-)

Looking at the bottle, it looks pretty. Its beauty doesn't really come across in pictures. It is made of heavy glass, could also be lead crystal. But what amazes me every time is that the color of the liquid is crystal clear and not purple. Or even light blue. This scent definitely smells bluish-purple.

Here, you can freely apply a few extra spritzes, although two can certainly be enough. This is a very clean scent with quite good sillage and longevity. Towards the end, it becomes increasingly muskier as the other notes slowly fade away. It doesn't undergo any other development. Nor does it need to, in my opinion. More complexity isn't always better.

It's good for June weather; I can't yet say how it performs in heat or cold. I can easily imagine this scent in laundry detergent and fabric softener. Nevertheless, it’s not an everyday scent; on the contrary, so it’s definitely worth testing before buying. I think it’s certainly recommendable for clean freaks, at least.

Something different...
...from my usual perfumes. This scent will appeal to those who enjoy fragrances like Bronnley. It is a wonderful "understatement" fragrance, appearing extraordinarily well-groomed and clean.
However, it is strongly powdery and matte. I certainly perceive violet, but more like violet powder. Bergamot and musk, the rest I cannot guess.

I was sprayed with it after a cosmetic treatment (by an Italian :O))). I am convinced that one must also have courage and character to want and be able to wear such fragrances. I really like it a lot.

No bling-bling-synthetic-hello-I-am-here perfume.
How long it lasts, I cannot tell you yet. By the way, I also liked Cleopatra very much.

The Benjamin Button of the fragrance world. It evolves from powdery-almost-musty old quirk to a soft little, velvety delicate girl.

I always think first: "Is it off?" This sour-bitter, dry note is not for me. Really tastes like it's gone bad.

Nice floral lightweight, quite fruity, too fruity for me. Violets are present but relatively weak. There are better violet scents.

Very well-made scent. Quite extraordinary, best tested on the skin. Floral, plush, warm. Lasts long.
