I've been alone with you inside my mind....

In 1987. My uncle used the fragrance. A green plastic bottle (!) with the aftershave from Marbert. It smelled much fresher than the cologne I tested. My uncle also owned the most beautiful Mercedes in the world. A turquoise (!) 560 SEC with white (!) leather seats and even AMG tuned! Much cooler than the stupid K.I.T. from Knight Rider. What a cool guy! What a cool scent. Marbert Man! So many beautiful memories come to me. And so the years went by.....

From time to time I bid on a few minis on eBay. And so a vintage Eau de Cologne bottle of Marbert Man landed with me. In joyful anticipation of a nice scent déjà vu, I immediately splashed a good amount on my wrist. I should have left that alone. There wasn’t much left of the cool “dude” from the 80s. Antiquated and audaciously trying to be a village macho. But somehow also sexy. Such perfumes simply don’t exist anymore. On the right guy, it would surely still charm many women today. Was it actually reformulated?

Well, then it happened; I work a lot with people and one evening I stood opposite two grandpa types who BOTH smelled strictly of Marbert Man and were as far from the sexy macho as Dieter Bohlen is from ethics and morals. So that’s the clientele. Oh Marbert, your wearers are dying out.

I wonder what my uncle is doing? I haven’t seen him in surely ten or eleven years.

Here a phenomenon is described that is often, and quite silently, equated with reformulation. However, it is often us humans who have changed over the years...

Sorry, but Apicius is right, it can't have been Marbert Man.
I still have a bit of it in a bottle and sniff it from time to time; it's still a good scent for older gentlemen. (like me ;-))

@Forsberg: That's life! He lives almost 500 kilometers away. My cousin has also moved out. Plus, there are family disputes - that's just how it is.

@Apicius: Sorry to disagree with you, but it was definitely Marbert Man. I've smelled that bottle at least 1000 times. It was easily accessible in the impressive marble bathroom. And the contents were green, not the bottle. I have to revise my statement.

Sorry, but if the bottle was green, then it was more likely Marbert Homme and not Marbert Man.
