The Dark Rose Hedge

In a Marc O'Polo shop, I first encountered the three unisex fragrances Sky, Rain, and Earth. The simple yet unusual bottles caught my attention, so I immediately tested them, and after the first impression, Rain and Earth went straight onto my wishlist. In addition to the beautiful bottles, another special feature of the Marc O'Polo fragrances is that the complete composition of the scent can be read on the website.

Earth initially captivates with an intense, dark rose note. While I love the scent of roses in general, I find it difficult to find a rose fragrance that I would want to wear as a perfume myself. Most of them are too sweetly feminine (especially when combined with fruity notes) or too old-fashioned (especially when combined with aldehydes or powdery notes). Those that are not like that and specifically target men often combine the rose with scents that are completely unpleasant to my nose.

That it can be done differently - and that it doesn't have to be exorbitantly expensive - is shown by Earth. It smells transparent, natural, darkly radiant, and simply beautiful. The rose is combined with a slightly smoky wood base, reminiscent of fragrances like Tam Dao Eau de Parfum or "Wonderwood | Comme des Garçons." The ratio of rose to wood is very balanced. Overall, Earth paints for me the picture of a dark, mysterious hedge.

Your review perfectly summarizes the effect of rose in general, but especially how it relates to me personally! A perfume tip in this context: Rêve Ottoman by La Manufacture. It takes a similar path with rose for me-masculine, dark, and a bit earthy.
