November Rain
In the scent of "The Gardener," wet earth and mud are listed as heart and base notes, with a few floral notes only at the opening, and that is exactly how the fragrance is. I find it distinctly earthier than Encre Noire a l'extéme.
What I catch a whiff of after about 10 -15 minutes is something like the smell of gardening at the end of an October or November day, when you have finally winterized the garden and have shoveled a lot of earth and heaped up perennials and roses with your hands to protect them from the impending frost. When all the gardening tools are put away and you take a last look at "Your Work" while inhaling the damp, cold earthy air, you get exactly that scent in your nose.
At the same time, right after application (since it is an aftershave, there is, as usual, no sprayer involved), the rather subdued mild floral quality of the top note is noticeable, which diminishes over time but never completely disappears. The opening does not evoke flowers in full bloom, but rather those that have wilted and are now thrown onto the compost. The label looks a bit like a movie poster for a horror film from the 70s, but it captures the transience encapsulated in the scent quite well. I always think of my "very dark phase" when The Cure was considered too cheerful...
The longevity is really good for an aftershave scent, though it doesn't project widely.
For an aftershave, the moisturizing effect is also relevant, and there is only good news to report on that front. Those who use the aftershave after shaving with a safety razor or knife will, in most cases, not need any additional care.
Unfortunately, the scent is only available as an aftershave from Areffasoap; otherwise, I would consider it suitable for darkly daring ladies as well, but that applies to many fragrances.
