So, after about 15/20 minutes oud top note, comes good old Gucci by Gucci EDP. Maby not same, but very very similar to GbyG. I mean it is nice perfume, but unnecessary. In this moment, oud is trendy, and Gucci follow this trend. However, notwithstanding, must say, I am a potential buyer .

Focusing on the profitable trend of oriental perfumes centered on the agarwood accord, Gucci launched this year what is a flanker to its Gucci by Gucci 2007 creation. I think they chose this one maybe due the unisex aura of the 2007 one, although the result is only related to the it by the bottle and the secondary notes of musk, patchouli and pear. What is central and most noticeable is the now classic combination of saffron, rose and agarwood, which few brands have fled when they launch their ouds interpretations. Throughout the composition gucci oud seems to favor on me a little bit more the saffron and oud accord seems to go in and out of focus at times during the composition. At the opening, it has something quickly Animalic and smoky, blending with the pear and raspberry aromas. It's not as easy to recognize these fruits, it seems as if they had been dipped in a vat of rose-saffron-oud accord to give a slightly fruity and sweet tonality. After the fruity notes evolve, rose and saffron share space in the heart, with the rose being a little bit sweet and without any bitter nuances and with the saffron giving it leathery, powdery and spicy aroma. Finally, Gucci Oud ends in a more woody oud without medicinal nuances, and i also get some discreet patchouly earth at this phase. At that time, it fantly brings a Tom Ford Noir Noir resemblance in the skin, as a milder version of this. Honestly, this does not add anything new to the interpretation of this type of fragrance, but is concerned about offering something that not only stay on the oud and that seems to have plenty of development and harmony on skin.

Is Oud the new boring?
There is a time window - and this window is not that small, I think it’s at least two years - during which one can still somewhat unnoticed jump on a fragrance trend, there are still combinations and variations to interpret it differently, to add something new to it, or if necessary, to quote it ironically. There are paths that have not yet been trodden or at least not widely worn.

Oud and especially the combination of Oud with rose are as well-trodden as the A3 between Cologne and Frankfurt.

There is something unworthy about a house like Gucci (even though pleasant scents were never their core business - they were saddlers, and they should remain saddlers!) to bother the world now with an Oud fragrance. I found Davidoff's Leather Blend too transparent and sales-driven, and unworthy of an upright perfumer to release an Oud fragrance in 2014. Montale might be allowed to. No one else.

Oud, don’t get me wrong - Oud is wonderful! I am always fascinated by what an inconspicuous fungus can do with a piece of wood. And there are many Oud fragrances from the years before 2010 that are wonderful - one like the other! The scent character of Oud is unmatched: radiant and metallic-glossy, at the same time hot and cold. Hard as a dagger made of Damascus steel and at the same time soft and sweet like ambrosia. A piece of Oud, called 'Jinko', from the 8th century is part of the Japanese crown jewels!

Gucci Oud is not a poorly crafted fragrance, not even that. And yet it lacks a lot - pioneering spirit and passion above all, but also depth and character and - if you sniff closely - a bit of quality as well. That it still doesn’t smell bad hardly reconciles here, because 'doesn’t smell bad' can no longer suffice for a rose-Oud fragrance.

Conclusion: Releasing this fragrance in 2014 is like saying: 'Look: Prosecco with elderflower syrup - something completely new!'

a) not reinventing the wheel; b) rather disappointing
These were my first two bullet points that came to mind regarding G O. I had mischievously looked forward to this fragrance and could finally get my hands on it at my home base Munich at Oberpollinger and press the spray button.

Okay, some knowledgeable, competent noses had already expressed skepticism, and I must say: Gucci Oud is not that great. In principle, it doesn’t start off too badly, with a nice, interesting, stable top note that promises a lot, appearing dignified and well-ordered with a bit of pep, but then it lets you down, leaving nothing to follow that the nose would expect. While the top note was still interestingly compact with a spicy-fruity opening that suggests a truly noble and high-priced fragrance, the heart note is lackluster and even worse than the base.

The top note still has Montale quality. Some customers might pack the fragrance away after spraying it, as they are so pleased with the wonderful opening, but the further development falls flat because there is none.

The heart note with the promised orange blossom and rose reminds me of Dark Saphir by Agonist. (Please don’t take the comparison too literally, I can already see the noses jumping up) DS is also a fruity, floral Oud interpretation, but O here does not come close to DS at all. Here, the pyramid collapses like a house of cards, leaving only the cards scattered on the bottle floor, uh, on the table. The fruity-rosy-oud quality is understandable, but by no means satisfying.

The base is even less. And still for just under 140 euros. In the base, there’s a bit of wood with a little something else. A little something else that reminds of the spicy component from before, but is even thinner. So wood + to ensure it’s not just completely boring wood. However, by this point, the longevity has already become really weak. The sillage is not strong throughout. Only at the beginning is it quite okay. But for a rather high-priced Oud representative, it’s somehow not usable.

I hope I have been able to show with my lackluster writing style (stopped at 24 minutes during my first comment from my phone) that G O did not deliver what I had hoped for. I will not buy it, and my 60% applies to the top note. Unisex.

A New Love...
I'll say it right away... I have nothing from Gucci. Well, almost nothing. Now I have Gucci OUD. And I love it! A friendly saleswoman at Alsterhaus introduced me to it. At first, she wanted to pair me with some terrible scent from ESCADA (bahhhhh). I immediately told her not to come any closer with that stuff; I’m already allergic to the bottle. She asked me what I like, and I described... - she had just the right thing for me. Just the right thing? I don't know. She handed me the scented card sprayed with Gucci Oud. I felt dizzy! It smelled strong, initially way too strong and heavy. Then I caught fire. The rose and patchouli are clearly dominant... but what I like best is that the scent develops very dark yet warm on me. The woods are coated with saltwater. It smells like driftwood heated by the sun. Desirable. A little rose lingers and makes it a bit softer and rounder for me.

In short, after about 5 times at Alsterhaus for the "Can I quickly test my favorite scent again" meeting, I wavered from infatuation to love and bought it. It is expensive, but love, as we know, has no price.

Rose-oud-combo with soft sweetish note of oud, slightly amber-scented. Good wearable, but it can also be replaced by many similar scents.

I sense a lovely rose and dark, soft-woody oud. The patchouli also shines through a bit. Lightly sweet -spiced.

Actually, brands like Gucci always want to be a step ahead - here it's just the familiar rose-oud-fruit-saffron mix. One of many.
